You do not need an aftermarket ignition box. The wires will work just fine with the factory ignition. Pre '96 coils do tend to give out sooner so putting in a new coil may not hurt. They are relatively cheap but if the coil is firing the engine under load up to redline then it isn't absolutely necessary.

btw, AC Delco platinum plugs are crap. The platinum "pucks" on the electrode have a nasty habit of coming off... making the gap excessive.

If you really like changing plugs on an LT1 F-body then that's great. Most people absolutely dread it and would gladly pay a few bucks not to have to revisit the project any time soon.

Just food for thought

I believe that platinum plugs are fine for normal igintion systems, but our cars HEI ignition is rather "hot" right out of the box.......

When I bought my 6A box, I phoned MSD and asked them about using platinum plugs with their products.
They didn't recommend it, for the reason that platinum will tend to melt with hot ignitions, and decrease/increase the gap of the plug.

The wires will fit fine and so will the plugs.......but I would find a way to trade those in for some standard plugs, you just won't get the milage out of them that the company says you will.

Many, many, people report these pucks missing on even stock engines. I replaced my plugs when I had 25k miles on the stock engine and there were several missing. When I removed the heads it didn't appear that any of them boogered the valve seats though. The design of the plug just isn't very good.

Like anything else, people will pay it. There are many products out there that are expensive and absolutely worthless but for some reason people buy them Tornado anyone?

I like everything about my MSD wires from the boots, to the cores, to the style of crimp. Is there a certain brand you recommend and why? A lot of people run Taylors but lately I've heard of a few people having problems with them... I don't recall what the specifics were, if it was from heat or just poor resistance. The stock catalytic converters are the "brick" style and are pretty effecient as is. If you were going to upgrade anything in the exhaust system next it would be headers or even just the Y-pipe, both of which will provide better gains that simply replacing the cat.

I completely agree with the beer Just make sure it's a Guiness or Sierra Nevada PA and not something like Miller Lite
