MSD Pro Billet Distributor question?

Did anyone check there msd pro billet timing screw to see if it was two turns out like the instructions say? Im curious if they are all set exact or if they should be double checked.

Never assume it's correct - always double-check.

Also, when you add advance (turn CCW) the optical module can "hang-up" and not advance. A spring-loaded plunger is supose to push the module in the advance direction as the adjustment screw is backed-out.

While you have the MSD apart, it is best to add a lot of advance initially. Then remove advance by turning the adjustment screw CW and that ensures the adjustment screw will push the module.

Its been on the car for a year now. I never checked it before i installed it but did today. It was 2 1/2 turn out so i put it back to 2 like they say they leave the factory with. We will see if this makes a difference.

Just hope the spring-loaded plunger is actually pushing the module and it isn't hanging-up.

I thought i set it to 2 turns out and went for a test drive. I could barely chirp the tires and when i got back to adjust it i double checked and it was only 1 3/4 turns out. I set it to 2 1/8 and it really responding. Not sure if it is faster than 2 1/2 turns out but it feels strong. Does loosening the screw make the timing advance?

Clockwise, retards the timing and counter cw advances the timing. I was told by someone at MSD that 2 and 1/2 turns out is actually base timing which is inconsistant with other info I had read Which stated that it was 2 turns I no longer have the MSD , due to multiple issues.

I just found this post with a lot of info i was interested in knowing. I love that they say 2 tuns but i see 2 1/2 is the real preset they come with.

When I had it I adjusted it a little, I think the most I ever advanced it was 3.5 turns and it felt pretty peppy ( more of a throttle response thing) , but the idle was very inconsistant some times at 1000 then after getting in to it and coming back down to idle it would idle at about 1500 for a few and go back to normal, but the real kicker for me was when I did have it advance at the 3.5 mark I was passing buy a couple of buddies and revved at them....well my rev never came back down the SOB redlined and stayed I had to pull over w/a quickness and turned car off, it crunk back and ran fine...so I left it aloneDam the next day it did it again outa nowhere. After that day I never messed with the timing again.........a buddy of mine has the same unit and hasnt messed with the timing and has had no problems....... just an expensive disaster waiting to happen if -IMO- you mess with the timing---- at least from my experiences. Good luck with yours
