MSD Pro Billet Distributer
MSD Pro Billet Distributer
Hey has anyone else seen that MSD Pro Billet Distributer on thunderracing.com . It looks like something very new, i know it wasnt there a couple weeks ago when i was checking out the dynaspark on that same page. So anyone else got any more info on it?

It looks nice, im sure it performs well also, but man $500 thats alot of cash...seeing how now u can get a vented opti for $230-$250. I dunno, i cant see myself spending the cash on something like that just yet...
Re: MSD Pro Billet Distributer
For the money if you genuinely believe the opti is so bad why not go to one of the multicoil setups. Sure you have to keep the opti but it lets you get rid of the primary wear components electrical loads. You remove the rotor and no concerns about it breaking. Multiple coils are going to charge better at the high rpms people want to believe the opti incapable of handling anyway.
I caution you guys about getting too exited about this thing I have already seen talk of how great this and the cap/rotor kits are when they are not tested yet so how does anyone know they are better?

ive been waiting for this for years. a reason not to convert to coil packs. you have to have an opti to trigger the coil packs anyway. might as well buy an MSD opti and hook it up to a MSD coil and a digital 6 box.
Re: MSD Pro Billet Distributer
If infact it is a new piece thats redisigned from the ground up then i think it would probably be a good investment. My motor will be seeing close to 7k on a regular basis so a reliable ignition is in order. A detailed comparison to the dynaspark would be very helpful at this point. From what i have read about the dyna spark it is a major improvement over the standard opti but there was still room for improvement. What i want to know is if MSD went the distance and used ALL good components in their design. Even if it turns out to be a clone of the dynaspark then its still a good deal because from what i can see its a hundred bux less.

The Dynaspark is all stock components put in a billet case with a few "O" rings added.
The MSD is an all new design with different electronics, brgs, etc inside and their new cap and rotor that won't break at 7000RPM's.
Re: MSD Pro Billet Distributer
When my opti finally craps out, I'm going to get the MSD unit.
I went to Thunder Racing to check it out, thier saying mid December. But they didn't say what year. LOL
Did you see the prices they were charging for the GM stock units?
GM LT1 Optispark - 1992-1994 LT1 $529.99
GM LT1 Optispark - 1995-1997 LT1 $394.99
Looks to me that thier trying to push the aftermarket units with those prices.

Hmm this is starting to sound like one of those cases where the public anxiously awaits the release of a breakthrough product only to experience constant postponement. Reminds me of the software industry. Argh.

More sheeple talking up UNPROVEN parts.
Even the opti haters don't claim the optical part of the opti to be unreliable and multicoils WILL charge better at high rpms because each coil has longer between firings than a single has. I swear you people are the reason we have such a hard time getting good parts all someone has to do is say they will make a better part and you guys praise the hell out of it before it is even released much less tested. I find it amazing society functions as well as it does with people like voting
