Re: MSD opti estimated price

ouch... At SEMA thay had it listed for $500. I would probably buy it for that price but for $713 I have to say its has crossed my line of too much money. I'll just replace my stock opti a few times and still have money left over.

Its definately a nice piece... and I was thinking of putting it on my new motor if it is released by the time I am done building it.. But now I am not sure. I'm just not going to spend $750 for a distributer just yet.

Re: MSD opti estimated price

My rationalization is I'd rather buy one at $500 and not have to do it again! Besides, the timing adjust is probably a nice thing to have.

To me $500 is a small price to pay for piece of mind given to a very very poor initial design.

Why not
I was going to order one from summit but I decided to buy a original GM vented one for like $220.The first one lasted me for 120k miles so if I can get that again I will be happy

With your own shop -why don't you set up an account with Atech(summit's parent company) and save some money?

Yes. The optical pickup was improved...the cap and rotor def improved...and they claim it will be sealed better than the stock opti to prevent the types of failures the stock one has.

Re: MSD opti estimated price

My question is that with the improvements that were done, why didn't they vent all of them. Why not add some type of vent (and a small kit of hoses, fittings) regardless of year? Doesn't make sense to me...

Re: MSD opti estimated price

It sounds like a promising unit. Plus, it comes in a little cheaper then the Delteq or the Dynaspark units. As stated above though, I wonder if these will be released on the promised date considering how long it took for the cap/rotor to finally make it on the shelves.

Re: MSD opti estimated price

Hmmm.....well I'm gonna let all the suckers go out and buy them first and discover all the bad things about them before I go and spend 500$ on a distributor that nobody has tested.

Gotcha

I'm going to wait until I do the new motor, as this opti has 160k+ miles on it with no issues.
