MSD ignition
I was thinking about putting a MSD ignition (I'm not set on the MSD brand, thats just the one I could think of for an example) on my bone stock 1996 SS. I've got a couple questions for you guys who know about this stuff:
1 - what system would be ideal for me (daily driver) 2 - how much is it going to help the performance of my car 3 - how hard is it to install (is there "plug and play" convience?) 4 - what would be some good componets to install to compliment the system |
as far as performance, i doubt you notice anything. however, msd says you get: quick starts and smooth idle, instant throttle response, improved high rpm pull, and reduced spark plug fouling. the basic model is for a relatively mild setup. this is the 6200. they also make some higher models that have a rev limiter setting and others offer adjustable amounts of retard for boost pressure. they do make a wiring harness that makes it easier to install. however, my friend has one on his 87 iroc 350 and i think there was only three wires coming off the msd box. i don't know if you need any other components to go with one of these boxes or not. i would just say make sure your plugs, wires, coil, and opti is in good condition. what part of kentucky are you from? there is a msd dealer in Louisville, bowling green, ashland, lexington, and pikeville in kentucky. if you are by any of these places, let me know and i will give you their # and address and that way you can call them or stop by and let them answer any other questions.
