MSD Digital 6 vs Mallory Hyfire 6

I'm planning to swap my Crane ignition box for either an MSD or a Mallory digital box, but I'm not sure if either one will fit here:

The MSD looks to be 0.2" taller than the Crane, which has one small nick from the hood touching it. Another 0.2" could be fatal. And I haven't found any dimensions for the Mallory 685. Anyone have either of these boxes? Where did you put them?

I have no complaints - the box has worked fine for me since 1997. But I think I fried it this weekend trying to troubleshoot a no-start problem. It blew it's fuse, and when I tried to put in a new one, I was rewarded with a bright and loud spark, so something inside the box is shorted to ground.

Since I'll likely need a replacement, I figured one of the new digital boxes with multiple rev limiters, and maybe built-in boost-referenced timing (the Mallory 685), would be a good deal. The MSD Digital 7 looks good, but it's W A Y expensive.

I've got the Digital 6. It's mounted under the driver's seat. Blaster HVC II coil is mounted on a custom plate on the lower driver's fender with a custom Super Conductor 8.5 wire for the LT-1 distributor. If you go this way, MSD will send you the coil wire pre-terminated, just state the length and connections.

On the digital 6 how bad was the install, similar to the MSD 6AL? I've been debating on picking the digital 6 up for awhile now, just not sure what coil or where to mount everything at.

You wouldn't happen to have pics would you michael that I can take a look at your setup?
