MSD cap and rotor kit...DEAD!

Yes after 1,200 miles DEAD! Confirmed kill in pic below. same exact Ignition that kills Stock caps in 12-14k miles killed the MSD in 1,200

Current settings
MSD Cap and Rotor DOA
MSD Coil
16 year old(I kidd you not) MSD 6T with soft touch
NGK TR6 gapped to .040

EDIT

TO clear up what you are looking at. the black mark on the rotor is NOT supposed to be there. it is a carbon burn clean through the rotor. as dead short to ground when the ignition is trying to fire. The OPTI it self is fine and working great. LOTS of Spark going into the cap but not a damn thing coming out

Damn, I don't like that at all. Please keep us posted on what they find. I'm hoping that was some kind of manufacturing defect, because if MSD doesn't know how to make a distributor, then who does?

That is about as close up as I could get. I will try again tonight. The Cap it self seems fine. early signs of carbon on the posts like a stock unit but they are brass so they are not melting.

I will be contacting MSD shortly

BTW I like how there are three Sales links for MSD across the bottom of the post here

Re: MSD cap and rotor kit...DEAD!

Ya got some high resistance somewhere causing the spark to come back to the opti. Plug wires, plug gap, plugs. It doesn't matter if they are new.
When ya increase resistance it is harder to fire the plug and it lets the spark back up in the opti and do just what ya see. Spark will take the path of least resistance.
