MSD 6AL or Digital 6?

I am about to upgrade the ignition, but heard I need to get a digital 6. What is the difference? Why won't a 6al work?

Wouldn't worry about it unless you're supercharging or using nitrous.

I was told something to the effect of the msd6al being for non-computerized engines.

I think the difference is that the 6AL has a soft touch rev-limiter. That's why they say it is used a lot in nitrous applications. The 6AL will work fine, MSD even sells a wiring harness for it so you don't have to splice any wires.

The 6AL will work fine for your car. The only reason I went with the digital 6+ is so I could get the 2 step limiter

Yep, the 6A, 6AL, or Digial 6 + would all work fine. I've been running a 6A box since '96 on my 93, but recently switched to a digital 6, for the integrated adjustable timing retard. Was able to consoliate boxes and ditch the old 3 step retard.

The main reason I went w/ the 6AL was for juice. You can't beat the soft touch rev limiter which drops random spark instead of fuel cutoff. No detonation on a missed shift Regardless of N/A or N2O I like the soft touch over the fsctory rev limiter.

If i remeber right the factory limiter cuts fuel right. If it does then im definetly going to be buying a 6a something cause i dont want to blow another engine.

yes, the factory rev limiter is a fuel cutoff. I think the price is similar for the 6AL vs. 6A. IMO it's worth the extra $

I think i would rather over rev my engine then have fuel cut.

The digital 6 still has the soft touch rev limiter but it is nice because you can set it by turning a dial to whatever you want. I am not 100% sure but I think you have to change pills with a 6AL to set the rev limiter rpm. Also the digital 6 has a 2 stage limiter and timing retard control that is great for nitrous applacations

i'd like to know more about the digital 6+. I've been told to use it since its got the timing retard feature. how adjustable is it and how many degrees should you be retarding the timing compared to how much your spraying?

Re: MSD 6AL or Digital 6?

My friend has a Crane ignition, and there is this little **** inside his car that lets him set the retard on it. Does this mean that it is a digital system? If I got a digital system, would it override the knock sensor-set timing retard?
