Re: MSD 6AL and Blaster Coil

Let's see...

MSD 6AL runs about $150, the coil, another ~$40.

Net gain> between zero and about 3# of torque between 1000 and 4500 RPM.

Problems solved? None, if nothing was wrong with your ignition coil anyway.

Opportunity lost: about five tanks of gas.

I'm sure others will claim that their LT1 went from 14.6 sec in the 1/4 to just a hair under 13.1 with this mod, but then this website is composed of hundreds of boastful individuals and dozens of retailers looking for another sucker.

Price of gas, you could fill up severl time for the $200 wasted.

On that note I think regular is below $2.10 here now.

Re: MSD 6AL and Blaster Coil

o well i wasnt really thinking of getting the 6al i was just asking what it does.. if i get anything ill get the blaster coil because its cheap and i figured it could only help.. so i guess i could rephrase my question to.. is there any difference between switching from a stock coil to an MSD?

I'm sure there are differences, but unless its broke I wouldnt replace the coil.

there is not a big difference unless you have nitrous, turbo, supercharger or a 383. its helps to burn the added fuel for better combustion.

Re: MSD 6AL and Blaster Coil

i did both my msd 6al and my blaster coil at once and it made a huge difference on mine. but im pretty sure my old coil was bad cuz it ran rough and it missed. the best part about the 6al is when you decided to get rid of the stock rev limiter, you can adjust your limiter to whatever you want it to be.

Re: MSD 6AL and Blaster Coil

I went with the 6A + 8202 coil due to the ATI D1 mod. Then I had problems with the opti. The added juice caused alot of heat down there and the rotors were failing. Since then I think I have solved my opti failure problem (Its not broke anymore, I had to modify). Then, plugs (ngk) were fowling. I went with the zex plug and I have not had a problem since - I really like their plug. I like the MSD 6A (6AL), but, I don't think opti was built for it (I've been thru 4 of them). (1997 383 D1/ 72# injectors.) It's a trial and error sport with these things.
