MPG thread.....how good are you getting

What kind of mileage are you guys getting out of your 6 speed cars? Heres my car. 96 Formula 6 speed, OBD1 conversion. Stock motor, with Edelbrock 1 5/8ths, 3in catback, CAI, 3.73 gears, 160 t-stat. PCM was changed for fans to come on at 180. Im STRUGGLING to get 20mpg on the highway running about 70-80. Shouldnt I be getting better than that? Ive seen of a lot of ppl getting 25-27. Im not driving it hard. Its mostly very little in town, and 20-30min higway a day. What could be my problem?

Running 70-80 will get worse gas mileage than 55-60. The faster you go, the more hp it takes to sustain that speed.

I get around 25 if I drive it good.

The new motor just clocked a staggering 10mpg city driving, sweeeeeeeeeet!

My old cam only combo would get mid 20s easy with 4.33 gears on the highway, havent done a road trip with the stroker yet, needs too much tuning.

Actually, I get better gas milage going 80mph than I do going 60. I go to school up in MD, 6 hours away and I've tested different speeds to see what kind of milage Id get. Going 80mph, I only turn about 400rpms more than going 60, but every hour youve traveled 20 more miles. Going 60 I could never get more than 26mpg, but going 80mph I get 28mpg.

City driving, I shift 1-3-5 and I get about 18mpg.

These numbers are all with the mods in the sig, stock 3.42s and new plugs/wires about 6,000 miles ago.

i get roughly 27-30mpg on the highway doing ~85. i've also clunked it down into 5th and kept it at 65 and gotten similar. in the city, i get around 11. WOT i get about 2 gallons a mile.

pretty much all i have is blower/42#/fuel pump/3.23's

Cool Re: MPG thread.....how good are you getting

highway is great just under 30 mpg in 6th @ about 1750 rpms

local can be as low as 12 and high as 20 depending on my foot and shifting

Re: MPG thread.....how good are you getting

When my 96 WS6 was still stock but with 4.10 gears, I got 28mpg at 75mph a couple of times. Combined was 20-22mpg all the time.

After the HOT cam went in, did 26mpg at 75mph a few times. Still 20-22mpg combined also.

Re: MPG thread.....how good are you getting

Best I ever got was 31mpg, on a highway roadtrip. I average about 27-28ish normally on the highway. City driving i have no clue.

Re: MPG thread.....how good are you getting

Well, I can't argue with experience. My other cars didn't do as well at higher speeds but maybe this low strung gear and m6 will like the 80mph speeds.

Re: MPG thread.....how good are you getting

I have been ****, and kept track of my milage since I bought my car new. It now has about 68,000 miles and I have averaged 21.5 mpg over the life of the car. This is a mix of about 60% highway, 40% city with a few dyno runs and 1/4 mile blasts.

The high is 31.5 mpg, and the low is 16 mpg.

By the way, when I changed my headers, I was getting bad milage for a while until I changed out my front O2 sensors. Things were great again after that.

You might want to replace your O2 sensors if it's been a while (more than 50,000 miles or so), in my opinion.
