Moving Back To California! Will this Pass???

Ok moveing back to California. So i got to get a legal set up.

I got a 95 formula stock exhaust manafolds, gutted stock cat, 3 inch cat back flowmaster.

I know that gutted cat has to go (bought it like that) and i figure ill finaly get the headers on there and a little tune up while im at it.

Here is what i was thinking Let me know if i forgot anything:

-AS&M Coated headers
-Random Tech Cat
-New Wires (the 8mm Taylor ones worked good for 5 years ill get another set)
-New AC Delco Plugs
-New O2 Sensors (should i get AC Delco or is the Bosh ones at auto Zone good??)
-Stage 8 Locking Bolts

Does anyone have this set up in Cali that can confirm that it passes emmissions tests. it would suck to send this amount of $$$ and find out i have to take it off.

Thanks in advance for any posts

I wouldn't do LT's and a high flow cat for CA emissions. My friends 99 WS6 has SLP LT's and 2 high flow cats, and barely passed. Also, you have to pass a visual check, and if you go to an **** smog place, you will fail as soon as they spot those LT's. Best thing to do would be put a regular stock cat in the car, and get it smogged and registered. You won't have to worry about smog for another 2 years, so do the LT's right after that.

AS&M are shorty headers so thats not a problem

i guess the Random Tech Cat is my main consern. anyone know if this brand will pass cali emmisions. i like it cuz you can get them to bolt right up to the AS&M Y pipe that comes with the headers. no wealding required which means i can do it myself.

yea, but isn't that y-pipe like $450 or so? I would just get some jethott LT's for around $500, and go that route, especially since it will sound a lot better, and give you better performance. Welding up a y-pipe at a muffler shop isn't that expensive, the route you are looking at is a lot more, plus it still might not pass. I would just keep the car pretty stock, then put on the parts because you won't have to worry about it for 2 more years.

no.

Why do u tell me in your first post Not to get LTs then in the 2nd post you tell me to get them??? i know LTs are not legal in Cali so thats why i chose to go with AS&M (Arizona Speed & Marine) they are 750 bucks and come coated and with a coated y pipe. Randon Tech makes a Cat that bolts right up to it and they say on the web site its good for cali on OBD1 cars.

money isnt the the consern passing is!

Re: Moving Back To California! Will this Pass???

I am obvioulsy not in CA, but with the car in the sig (single high flow Random Tech Cat) I pass EASY. My car put a fraction of the allowed values. The car is tested with two "sniffers" slipped over the tailpipes, where it is then driven (on rollers) through various real time situations, which I am assuming is the same in CA. I think you will have no problems. The Random Tech cat is VERY good. I will try and find the sheet. Enjoy your ASM and high flow cat.

Just about everything you put on that is visible is going to need a CARB # to pass the visual. I keep a 3 ring binder with all the paper work including the EO# so that if they ask, I can just pull it out.

Total pain in the as*

Re: Moving Back To California! Will this Pass???

Here is my emissions results (car in sig.) :

Hydrocarbons allowed in grams/mile: .8 Reading: .2509
Carbon Monoxide allowed g/mi: 15.0 Reading: 4.4522
Oxides of Nitrogen allowed g/mi: 2.0 Reading: .9903

I don't really have to be that detailed with carb#/eo#, but I would NOT worry about the ASM/Random teach combo as far as emissions go.

As long as the cats are in the stock locations and it passes the sniffer most places are not going to fail you for no EO# on the cats. But to be 100% safe make sure they have one. Any part that has an EO# is going to advertise that it does, because they spend a lot of money getting it. If it's certified they should send you documentation with the part.

This guy is absolutely correct. They even called CARB to verify the carb number with my header!

AS&M are mid length so it's a give or take that they'll pass inspection. The only headers aloud in California are shorties. AS&M are mid lengh. It really depends on where you smog it.
