If the other engine is complete, then I don't really see it costing much more than the cost of replacement fluids, and whatever misc. tools that you'll discover you need along the way.
Are you doing the swap yourself or having someone do it?
Most places in my area quoted ~$700-$800 to remove/replace an engine in my '97.
I say buy a jack, stands, and all the tools and do it yourself. It'll be cheaper, and you'll have a bunch of tools in the end.
As for how to do it, do a search on here, you'll find tons of info on both dropping out the bottom and coming out the top.
