Question Motor Partial Rebuild

The motor in my 1994 Z28 broke down. I had the cam timing gear fall off. In the process it bent a few pushrods and ate up my timing cover. I have purchased all new push rods, new timing cover, new gaskets, and new timing chain w/ new gears.

However, unfortunatly as the timing cover was ate up it threw all kinds of aluminum shavings into the oil pan. I am afraid these may have been spread all through out the engine. What all does it entail to get these out? Can I flush the engine down with deseil feul?

I have been thinking of replacing all the crank and pistion bearings cause i'm definatly going to have to drop the oil pan. Would this require pulling the engine? Is it possible to get the pan off w/o pulling the engine?

Also if I don't replace the bearings is there any way to tell w/o taking them appart if there are shavings caught up in there?

Thanks for the help!

It is possiable to do what you are asking, but it is no fun at all. Flushing can be done with desiel or lube oil. The amount of work involved, it is worth pulling the motor in my oppinion.

My pick up came off the oil pump. I droped the pan and changed all the main and rod bearings also. The rods aint the=at hard. The main. I used a carter pin. And bet it just right. WHen I tuned the engine over it pushed the bearing out of the top. Also if you never done it before. Make sure all the caps go back on the same one they came off of and the right direction.
