motor oil on transmission case?
motor oil on transmission case?
OK, i changed my motor oil yesterday (Mobil 1 SuperSyn with Bosch filter). and i noticed there was motor oil on my transmission case. some of it looked new and some looked old. the car runs fine. is this a normal thing, there isnt enought to leak onto the ground, there really isnt much at all, just enough to wipe off. there isnt anything on the motor either just on the front of the case. any idea what this is, or if it a problem? thanks.

Most likley blow by from a few places places. First place is usally the intake manifold leak that we all get, check the back of the intake on the passenger side and see if it is wet. The OTHER area that could give you issues is the oil pan gasket, and next it could be the gasket around your oil drain plug. It IS possible that i can be your rear main seal also. Check it out, intake manifold leak is my guess, it was my problem.
some of the oil was very dark, and the oil near the top was lighter.my guess is the oil on the bottom just picked up more dirt oitside, or it has been leaking a while. the oil that came out of the car when i changed the oil only look a month old or so. how much is it to change the intake gasket. and all thats involved with the oil pan gasket is draining the oil pan and pulling off, right. ill check out the intake to see if its leaking, but the engine bat is pretty clean, even on the back. thanks for the replies guys.
