Motor mounts

My car makes a noise when i accelerate under 20mph and let off. I beleive it's the i-pipe and the tunnel brace clunking together because there is a scuff mark on the i-pipe. Is this a sign of worn motor mounts? I'm installing pacesetter LTs in the next 2 weeks and don't want to have an even worse clunk after i install them but also don't want to just replace them on a whim as the budget is a little tight. The car has 83k miles and wasn't driven hard most it's life.

Re: Motor mounts

I WOULD definately do the motor mounts while your already there....!!!! AND the LTs WILL rub the K member, with that many miles on the stock motor mounts....

Re: Motor mounts

I had prothane engine and tranny mounts on my old thirdgen camaro and it vibrated more then i would of liked it to, but that might have been unrelated. Just looked up the GM ones, $120 + $20 shipping from gmpartsdirect for a set is a little steep. I think i'll give the Energy suspension ones a shot. $50 seems much more reasonable.

Anyone have a noticeable increase in vibrations with the ES motor mounts?

Re: Motor mounts

I guess i'll definately be ordering the motor mounts. Now i have a pretty much constant rattle with the i-pipe and tunnel brace. In the mean time when it stops raining i'll just get some washers for the tunnel brace to drop it down a little.

Re: Motor mounts

I find it hard to think that the culprit for this issue is motor mounts, I think it's the trany mount that is bad and replacing it would restore the correct tilt of the engine so that the pipe wont hit the brace. The motor mounts are very durable, but unfortunatly the trany mount isn't.

just had the same problem... put your car on a lift and check the tranny mount before you go changing your motor mounts(which are kinda a pain anyway...) good luck

Re: Motor mounts

When i first got the clunking noise a few months ago i checked that and the torque arm mount, both were fine. I guess i'll look it over again though.

Re: Motor mounts

It's an A4. I have to install LCAs and a torque arm bushing tomorrow anyway so i'll take a look at it then.

Re: Motor mounts

Energy Suspension Motor Mounts. ENS-3-1116R - ENS-3-1127R $25 each - $50 total

Summitracing.com

I don't have the partnumber for the transmission mount handy but they sell them at summit also.

If your looking for the stock mounts you can find the partnumbers at shoebox's website. shbox.com. The stock replacement mounts are more expensive then the energy suspension parts though.

Re: Motor mounts

I saw on advance auto parts website that with the energy suspension you had to "modify your cross-member". Does anyone know anything about this.

Re: Motor mounts

u only gotta modify ur crossmember with the ES poly mount for the tranny if u dont like teh vibrations, the virations are not really that bad or unbearable, if its very unbearable then u may have another problem
