wow, that really sucks. i guess i would be pullin the motor and startin over.

did you install the heads? if so, did you use thread sealer on the bolts/studs? they go through water on sbc's. i have heard of guys not doin that and ******* their bearings real quick.

So you're saying that if a car sat in storage for a month or two the motor would just grenade on start up because all the oil "seeped" out? Damn i had better not start my Mach 1 up, its been sitting since April with out being started.

Did you check the starter? I would check that first and then the timing chain.

I've been down that road, draining the oil almost always tell's you what the culprit is. You're screwed, pull the heads.

Re: motor is locked up and will not spin

so the block probably cracked? Before you pull the motor can you get the oil pan and heads off?

No, the head gasket probably blew out. The most common cause for a failure so soon, would likely be not tightening the heads down in the right sequence. Also, you should "asquish the gasket down by torqueing the heads down a couple times on a ML head gasket. I would think something laong these lines is explaining it. Or somethign that caused abnomally high cylinder pressures and was enough to blow the gasket but the forged parts took it though

you read my mind only I don't have a Mach 1

I guess I have been lucky last couple of years when starting mine up in the Spring

However I too recommend assembly lube as it is a very good insurance policy if you have start up oiling problems and you catch them right away you may save your engine. You know how that very first start up is a nervous one even if you primed the oil system. Guages get watched like a hawk and you are looking for leaks on thegarage floor like every 10 seconds

Re: motor is locked up and will not spin

I was in the car in the process of tuning it when this happened. Not 5 minutes before this happened everything looked ok according to the datalog. (I am still attempting to pull the log off of my laptop since the Adrive doesn't work, and will post it whenever I do so). The timing table was based off of my car which has a smaller cam and stock displacement, so there is no chance that it was detonationg as my timing was not excessive. It was also running negative BLM's (computer pulling fuel out), so it did not see any lean conditions the whole time leading up to when it seized.

Rob, please keep me updated with what you find if/when you pull the motor apart.

Ryan
