Motor just shut off.......

Alright, yesterday I fabbed up a new intake, relocated the IAT to the very end of the k+n conical, and cleaned the MAF with brake cleaner. The maf was real dirty, and I never touched the contacts with anything.

After about a minute of driving, it just shut off like someone turned the key. It would not restart, just turned over and over. Tried it once more and it fired off and i drove it up into my yard, where it promptly died again and would not restart. I go under the hood, everything looks ok. unplug the MAF, and it starts and runs ok. Think I might have killed it by cleaning it?

You probably screwed the MAF up by using brake cleaner. You should have used electronic parts cleaner. The reason that the car is running without it plugged in is because the car is running in speed density mode. Try one of your buddies MAF's and see what happens and go from there.

Yea I read posts where people used brake cleaner without any trouble. I have a bunch of other GM maf's out in the shop I will just go try one out. I also forgot that I swapped in a used MSD coil that I bought online that already had a ICM and bracket too.

Let it sit for about an hour. Plugged in the MAF and it ran OK. Drove it back down to my shop about a 1/2 mile away. It had the same idle surge and hesitation problem I have had for awhile now. I shut it off. Disconnected the MAF, crunk it again. Idle surge is gone and so is the hesitation. Guess it's time for a new MAF. Still doesnt explain why it shut off, guess maybe the brake cleaner coated the sensors, and then it blew it off. Who knows...

Tried out some other MAF's I had laying around and it did it again.

It turned out to be this POS MSD coil I just put on that had a burnt terminal and kept losing contact. Swapped it back to a stocker and it works just fine. Still has surge and a weird idle. Gonna buy a new MSD coil tomorrow and hook up my MSD 6a and see if anything helps.
