Motor install questions
Motor install questions
I got a 94 lt1 with all the accesories and now have some questions about putting it in.
1. Will I have problems using the 94 non vented opti when I am putting it into a 95z ? (I would think it wouldn't be a problem)
2. Is it really as bad as people say putting motor in through the top? I won't have access to a lift for a while, and it will cost money to use the lift. I have 3 other buddies that are going to help. I am hoping that with the 6 speed tranny and everything out I could just use a regular picker to put it in.
3. I know this is pushing it but anyway to put the motor/ tranny in together through the top?
4. The motor has 39,000 miles and has been sitting wrapped up since 99. Is there anything I should be worried about? Should I replace the water pump and opti while it is out just to make sure?
Sorry for so many questions this is the first time dropping in a motor.

Re: Motor install questions
As far as installing the motor, I pulled my motor and transmission out together through the top. I only had my wife there to help me guide it over the radiator support on top. Everything else I did on my own.
Re: Motor install questions
Its really not that bad of a job to pull the motor out of the top. I recently have changed 2 that way. I would recommend pulling the tranny too, I ran into a delay trying to get the dow pins in the tranny when I just pulled the motor.
Re: Motor install questions
Good luck with the install, but I would remove the radiator from the car, remove the accessory bracket, water pump and damper/hub if pulling the hub is not too much trouble.
If putting it from under the car, you can use a hoist to lift the nose of the car and could install everything at ones.
I know that the opti harness needs to be changed for it to work, but the coil side could also be different.
