Is that steel plate for just a more secure filter mounting, or does it help block hot air?

The steel plate bolts to where, I think the factory air box bolted (the moroso was already in my car when I purchased it) The intake tube has a sleeve that clamps to the top of the plate and the air filter clamps to the bottom of the plate from underneath the car. I purchased a new moroso air filter off of amazon for about $45, that was the best price I could find. Hope that helps.

So I ended up just paying $75 for one with a filter. I'll keep some of the stock piping a fab a longer pipe to make up for not having a MAF.

My dad's shop is right next to a sheet metal guy, so he's going to get him to cut the metal plate for me.
