more LE3 383 track times

im getting closer! more and more bugs being worked out = happier zigroid.
nothing was changed to the car since I got it dynod at 326 rwhp. the only thing changed since the last time the car was ran at the track was plugging the map sensor in (I was stupid for having it unplugged) and eliminating knock retard. the previous time I ran a 13.2 @ 104.5.

I drove 30 min to the track, it only cooled down for 5 minutes while I was sitting in tech then I took it for the first run...

run...1
60'....1.958
330...5.387
1/8...8.273
mph..84.86
1000.10.781
1/4...12.899
mph..106.38

I knew I ran better than before since the car didnt fall flat on its face after the 1st 60' but I also knew I spun quite a bit coming out of the hole. I DIDNT expect a 12 second timeslip. when I seen it I was ecstatic. my first 12 second timeslip! im gonna frame it.
sooo I hotlapped it to another run.

run...2
60'....1.797
330...5.191
1/8...8.067
mph..85.00
1000.10.571
1/4...12.691
mph..106.36

even better! going to the track today if someone told me I would run 12.6s I would have asked them for some of what theyre smoking.
I hotlapped again...

run...3
60'....1.802
330...5.213
1/8...8.095
mph..84.91
1000.10.604
1/4...12.724
mph..106.36

not a bad back up run, I decided to let her sit for a while and try and crack 107 mph... man was I in for a suprise.

run...4
60'....2.015
330...5.398
1/8...8.198
mph..87.54
1000.10.630
1/4...12.685
mph..109.72

I couldnt believe it, ALMOST 110 MPH! had everyone not drug the water onto the starting line I would have been low 12s! I wanted to get another run in before the strip closed...

run...5
60'....1.991
330...5.510
1/8...8.457
mph..83.03
1000.11.019
1/4...13.179
mph..104.39

well guess I didnt back up my best run. my car sat and idled for about 30 minutes in the staging lanes which killed the power. Didnt bother me too much since my worst run was better than my previous best run!

all in all I had a great time. I was one of the fastest cars there (1 LS1 SS was running low low 12s at about 112mph as well as an early 70s firebird that had a centrifugal blower that ran low 10s at 135 which I had the priviledge of getting violated by.) there were NO mustangs there faster than I was . im REALLY looking forward to getting this thing to run even better. when I was building this car everyone I knew said I WOULD NEVER see the 11s. well I still have untapped power left with only 6/10ths to drop!

btw you all kick *** for helping me get this far

Congrats man, keep working the bugs out. I knew you would come to your senses about parting it out!! Thats not bad considering what you dyno'd. Do you have any ideas on what else you will do to get it running like it should? Maybe switching to LT's and an ORY would help? Either way good job, and good luck man.

Man are you at a high elevation? That car is not making anywhere near the power it should......I ran a 110 MPH in a bolt on six speed car at full weight(12.60).....do you have the LE cam in the car? That car should run high 11's at a minimum at sea level. Not trying to **** on your parade..I am willing to help any way I can. E mail me.

Re: more LE3 383 track times

I ran it at island drags in NJ and it is full weight. the car does have the LE3 cam in it. the reason this makes me happy, even though it is slow for what I have done, is that when I first ran my car I was running 13.8s! stock it ran just shy of 15s at 92-93. unfortunately my car has been blessed with a never ending list of problems (much like everything else I ever do) and I have the honor of trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with it.

89385formula,
I believe my biggest problem is my exhaust. I have leaks that I can't seem to fix, one before the O2 sensor. possibly a clogged cat, and a Y-pipe with huge gouges in it. not to mention my headers are macs which probably are cutting power themselves. it needs new plugs at least on the drivers side. Im also running on a stock fuel pump but that doesnt seem to be hurting me... yet.

It sounds like you really do need to get those exhaust issues taken care of. An exhaust leak of any kind close to the o2s will definitely throw off performance and we don't even want to get started on the power loss a clogged cat will give you. Good luck. It sounds like you're definitely going in the right direction.

Please tell me this means you'll wait to get it running right before you think about selling it.

Re: more LE3 383 track times

You must have massive problems with your car .Stock ls1 at local track run that mph at 1700 feet altitude full weight and have around 350 HP engine. You should have 450 to 500 engine hp. You should be running 115 to 120 I would think unless at very high altitude and full weight car unless its like 4000 pounds raceweight should be that slow.

My stock internal ,no header mild bolt on 96z vert weighing 3850 runs 99 mph corrected for our altitude.

Clogged cats can definitely kill power huge. stock exhaust hurts a bit..cutout fixes that problem fast but you are way way slow..sorry but that is the simple truth. Now maybe the mph is being hurt bad by tons of wheel spin.Your 60fts aren't that bad though and other buddies at local track with ls1 and around 430 M6 dynoed are running 116mph or so.corrected to 119mph roughly for altitude.

your dyno at 326 is just slightly higher than buddies 2001 z28 with just a loudmouth and k and n filter. Is your car an a4 or m6? A4 do have lower mph but still..an le3 383 setup better dyno at least 375 Rwhp in an auto .

This is an LE3 h/c 383, right?

I've followed your plight briefly...and I sympathize with your issues and share in the joy of working through them...been there.

Before getting up or down on the track numbers, you really need to sort through the exhaust issue at hand, and eliminate it as a variable now. Once the ehaust is not leaking, cats are not clogged, and nothing is banging on the chassis of the car at any point, go run it again.

FWIW, clogged cats cost me 35rwhp, and switching to true-duals/x-pipe gained another 15rwhp.

Don't get frustrated...it's all about getting the combo right. It takes time and proper analysis. Call Jeff Creech at Carolina Auto Masters about helping you through the troubleshooting issues...he's a great guy and a great resource, plus he know a thing or two about LT1's.

Good luck to you.

Re: more LE3 383 track times

You definitely need to get a more free flowing exhaust on there, preferably with long tube headers. I gained 3mph in the 1/4 just by switching from a factory muffler to a Spintech muffler.

my car is an auto with a 3500 rpm stall. the 326 rwhp was recorded with an unlocked stall.

my car on the 12.6 @ 106 & 12.7 @ 106 spun very little. it hooked and went. the run that I ran a 109 mph trap I had a 2.0 60' and spun a bit out of the hole, but I also let the car sit for about an hour before that run.

SS MPSTR, always appreciate your input. Yes shes an LE3 h&c 383. I feel like im letting lloyd down BIG TIME for having my car be this slow. I'll make him proud though. my next fix will be the exhaust then the plugs. just gotta wait for a few more paychecks to roll in! I would LOVE to do a true dual setup (I heard a pacesetter LT, no cats, x-pipe, true dual with flowmaster single chambers and I can only describe it as aurally awesome) but I need to abide by PA state laws. I gotta have something that looks like a cat under there. I was thinking getting some old LS1 catalytic converters, cutting them in half, and having them welded wherever there is room to make it look like I have cats. I'll figure something out with the exhaust.
as for jeff creech I have heard of him. when I lived in SC i remember someone saying they had their car tuned by him and he does great work. you also IMed me a little while back recommending him. the only problem is he is 600 miles south of me. trust me if I was still down he would be my #1 choice. there are some places here that im gonna contact once Im ready for some tuning. rapid motorsports, 2nd street speed, TTP to name a few. not sure if I can get the LS1 guys to do an LT1 though.

Check into some of the Random Technology high flow cats if you need to have cats on the car.

You'll get there. I ran a 12.57 with the mods in my sig. And that's with MACs, full emissions & cat so I can pass the PA visual. Emissions..... blah!

Did you ever dyno your car? I'm planning of going withthe LE2 heads and LE1 cam and was curious as to what I can expect as far as HP. I'm guesing 375-380 RWHP because I have a 6-speed.

Yes I dynoed it, but I always hate to compare dyno numbers between different cars on different dynos. For what it's worth, it was 357 rwhp and 310 rwtq.
