I would suggest headers. It's not that it would sound like crap w/ a loud mouth, it would just be really loud. Most say that it isn't that bad if you keep the cats. With $500 you could get longtubes; assuming you can install, find a good price, and have a bit more money for gaskets etc (probably close to 600 actually). You might also be able to get gears. Don't know about the prices where you're from though, the install might eat into your pockets. Other than that, you could do a couple smaller bolt-ons, yet they wouldn't offer near the same gain. Or get a cutout, total of about $55 to have it welded in, decent gain (for the price), and great sound.

I woudn't get a cutout right now. It would sound about the same as your loudmouth already. But it is a pretty cheap mod that may yeild a couple of hp. So its up to you. Maybe you could get some SFC's. They will make your car feel a lot smoother. It also makes your car better around the turns. Besides that i think you will need at least another 100 to 150 bucks, for other mods. Either headers, gears, or torque converter would show the most gain. You could also do 1.6rr's.

I bought a used 3000rpm Vigilante stall converter off the FS section in this site for $500 bucks. A 2800rpm is the most recommended for our cars btw. That will net you no hp increase but probably one of the best seat of the pants increase. Figure on around .4-.5 tenths off in the quarter mile. That's a pretty big jump for any mod. Make sure you add a tranny cooler(the biggest one they make is only like $60 bucks) for the safety of your tranny. Heat is our auto's worst enemy. Trust me you'll be very very very pleased with the performance of your car after a converter install. Not only that it will get better and better after every mod you do from here on out. Converters put our cars in their perfect powerband and they wake up like no other.

Good luck,
Jason

I would say get headers. Depending on your future mod plans you can get shorties now. I know a lot of people will say only go with LT's but shorties made a huge improvement on my car. There are guys on here in the 11's with shorties. Don't under estimate added expenses on installs either. When I installed my headers I decided to do plugs and wires then I eliminated the cat so I needed some welding done, etc. etc....by the time I was done my $250 headers became a $500 dollar project. But it was well worth it!!!

if your car is an a4, then get a stall, if its a m6 then get a set of gears/drag radials, but if its an a4, the stall is the best mod you can do, it dropped me by .5sec, i personally regret getting the headers, i will never have a set of headers on any vehicle i will ever own

No offense Mickey but your times are awefully slow for your mods. You said the stall dropped .5et of your 1/4. What were you running before your mods? Your right at the same time and same mph as a stock LT1 and you have headers and a stall with a few other mods. Those two mods alone should have you in low 13's with good traction. Again no offense, just curiosity.

it doesn't seem too bad for a 1993 car with no induction mods.

SLP headers,2800 stall, cutout & nitto's better be giving me better than 13.9 or I'm buying a new car. That's like spending $500-$1500 just to go as fast as another stock LT1. Like I said I meant no offense to him but dang, that's not the times I'd expect to see. There might be other factors I don't know about, but just based on what I know.

Edit: One thing I just noticed is you said your best et. That could have been long before your mods. Sorry if there were any confusion.

I would have to disagree. I would say headers first, then the throttle body, if you do it at all. Here's the order I went in...

Flowmaster 80's series
!cats
K&N FIPK
SLP 1 3/4" coated headers
BBK/Edlebrock 52mm TB

NEXT UP:

Dr. Gas X-pipe w/ true dual Bullets.

I agree....TB is almost the last thing even after a cam swap with some rockers. The stock TB can handle up to there.

i ran a 14.49 @ 97.98 mph when it was bone stock, i race alot at a 330ft track just right above my house, stock those times where 6.25-6.30, after headers i went back and the best was a 6.22, the 60fts was about 2.1-2.2 at the 1/4 and the 330ft tracks, but after the tc and drs i went from 14.49 to 13.91@ 98.6 mph, then at the 330ft mark i went from a 6.22 to a 5.74, my car gained alot on the bottom, i figured it would go better than a 13.9 but it didnt, im gonna go back when i get my cai and chip and see what happens then
