mixing and matching 93-94 LT1s and transmissions

I am accumulating some LT1 stuff I am figuring out what to do with and could use some info and opinions.

First off I have a 94 LT1 6 speed setup and the engine (I was told) has a bad opti. Since I have to replace it anyway is it worth swapping the cam, timing set, and timing cover to be able to install a 95 up vented opti? Are the early ones unreliable enough to make it worth the change? Also is there a diagram or info on where to tie the opti vent lines onto the car? Or should I just get the early opti and run it?

2nd..i have an excellent running 93 LT1. If it turns out the 94 engine is junk, will the 94 6 speed setup and flywheel bolt up to the 93 engine ok? Since the 93 computer does not control the trans, would I need to have the chip burned to change from an auto to 6 speed? Is the 94 VSS output on the T56 the same as the 93 4l60? Or should I keep the 94 computer system and use the 93 engine if this is even possible? Thanks in advance, trying to learn more about the LT1s, I know plenty about what works with the older stuff but nothing newer.

you'd actually be better off with the 94+ gearing available in that ltx trans. the 93 has crappy gearing selection for 1-3 and a final of .60 instead of .50

to do the vented opti swap, you'll need a ton of parts and it's not feasable unless you're doing a complete rebuild. i think, and i'm sure this isnt all, you'll need the timing cover, cam, chain, cam gear, opti, intake elbow, vacuum hose, vacuum elbow, ..... i'm sure i'm missing something.

thanks, the 93 engine has an automatic on it now, will all of the 94 6 speed parts bolt up to it ok? Flywheel out?

yes, make sure to install a pilot bushing/bearing in the rear of the crank though

T-56? If so, then the "crappy gearing" all depends on what you want to do. If you want to highway cruise at the lowest rpm possible then maybe you're on to something, but for launching at the strip the 1st gear ratio in the '93 t-56 is far superior to the 94+ for moving such a heavy car out of the hole. I do remember years ago there were people clammering to get the '93 t-56. Especially the one that came w/ a 2.73 rear gear ratio.

There were two different 6-speed transmissions available for the '93. The M28 and M29 which was the close-ratio that if I remember correctly was same transmission that came in the viper that year.

93 with 2.73 rear (M28)
Rated for 400 ft/lbs
1st 3.36
2nd 2.07
3rd 1.35
4th 1.00
5th 0.80
6th 0.62

93 with 3.23 rear (M29)
Rated for 400 ft/lbs
1st 2.97
2nd 2.07
3rd 1.43
4th 1.00
5th 0.80
6th 0.62

good info, but as stated in my first post the 93 is an automatic, so none of the 93 6 speed info applies to my question.

this is what you said...you want to bolt up a 94 tx to the engine...you can. it's been answered soooo many times.

the gearing for the 94 trans is better throughout, not just final. i assume this is going to be a street driven car, not track only...and at the track you'll only be using 1-3 any way. why would you put a 6spd in a track only car??? makes no sense. they're not strong enough, the parts to make them strong enough are extremely expensive, and a good 2 or 3 speed auto would be much better and quicker to shift...plus you can to a trans lock and higher stall converters to keep in your power band...

any way, keep the 6spd and bolt it into the 93. you'll be fine. and if you dont want to do that, dont ask us if you can, cuz that's the answers you're getting.

also, you can use all the sensors and pcm on the 93, but you'll need to put on ALL the sensors, or program them out if you dont want a SES light.

thanks, just picked up the 94 today, going to try and see if I can troubleshoot it, right now I was told no spark but I have to confirm.
