Hey guys, I just wanted to say that of all the 4th gen fbody sites, this is the best one for LT1 info.
Now with that out of the way, I am looking to get an 6spd LT1 Trans am. I think I found the one I want, I just want to ask some questions first.
1) How do 6spd verts do in the 1/4? I hear they are .2 slower than hard/t-tops, but don't know for sure.
2) I read that Long tubes and verts don't work together. Will shorties do the job, or should I look for some LT4 manifolds? Or will LT's work, but absolutely kill ground clearance. AZ streets here suck and lowering won't be an option. Will they snag on pot holes?
3) Are 1997 LT1's a bit stronger than 92-96 LT1's? I've read there seem to be more freak 97 LT1's.
4) Mods, I was thinking 4.10's, full exhaust, ram air or KN charger, tune, and 1.7rrs. How would those equate roughly in 1/4 times? I understand elevation, temps, track conditions, launching, shifting, yadda, yadda yadda. Just ball park is fine.
5) The vert I'm looking at is a regular T/A. I was wanting to put on a WS6 hood and get the Ram air box. Is the ram air box beneficial, or is the filterchager actually better. My cousin used to have a 94 6spd formula with the KN filtercharger and a cutout and pulled a 13.5@102. Even if the KN charger is marginally better, I'll go with the Ram Air box, but if the ram air box sucks, at least I know the Filtercharger is good.
6) Bullet exhaust? How good is it? The car has a bullet catback. Should I change or is it adequate?
Sorry for all the questions, but this place seems to get the most traffic and have the coolest people. No offense to LS1 boards, but alot of those guys are jerk off 17yrs olds with too much money and hot air for brains. Meaning, "LT1s suck, LS1 is god incarnate". I know the LS1 is phenominal, but they sound like garbage and LT1s look better imho.

1)The LT1s generally range in the low 14/high 13 range in stock trim. Since it is a vert, it carries some extra weight, but there are plenty of people who squeeze out equal or better times as the t-top/hardtop counterparts.
2) You will be able to use long tubes on a vert. I have Pacesetter long tubes on my car and ground clearance is phenominal. I haven't dragged the exhuast ever and my driveway is on a pretty steep incline. The headers won't even be the lowest point of the exhaust anyhow, the y-pipe will dip down a little more. You should still have over a soda can distance between the exhaust and the pavement on a stock ride height car.
3)Even though on paper the 96-97s had ten horsepower more, they are still pretty equal to the 93-95 years.
4)Full exhaust, intake, and gears are good upgrades. As for the rockers, I personally would go for the 1.6 roller rockers in case you ever want to upgrade the cam one day. All of that along with some good tires and driving should put you in the low 13s.
5) Its been debated over and over, the gains will be near identical between the ram air setup and the cold air intake tube setup.
6) I have no experience with the bullet setup, but I hear good things about it. If it sounds good, then leave it.

Yeah, I was kinda bummed that people said verts and LTs don't mix, because shorties are kinda...ok for RWD vs cars. I'd rather do the header install once and that's it.
As for a future cam swap, not likely. Been there, done that. Not on an Fbody, but on a GTP and it's not worth it.....to me. And I can imagine the nightmare the install would be in a 4th gen engine bay. No thanks. LOL!!! But they do make 1.7 rockers, right? With moderate lowering springs, LTs are not a problem. I have cut Jamex springs along with shorter than stock front tires and I can get over 90% of whats out there.
'97 LT1s are no stronger than '93-'96s, never ever.
4.10s 100% w/ a 6spd, you can still cruise at 85mph no problem.
Any CAI will net good gains, I know for a fact that the WS6 ram air setup will get the coldest air to your engine and with a little hacking on the hood inlets, will flow more than you will ever need.
Negative on the 1.7s, 1.6s will gain almost as much and you won't have to buy rockers again when you get a cam, and yes, you will get a cam.
Any 3" catback will flow enough for just about anything. Tuner NicD is putting 680rwhp through his.
Don't know WTF a Bullet catback is, my guess is that its some 3" catback with just a bullet muffler instead of a chambered one.
