Mid Length header opinion

Before I get the opinions on long tube versus mid length tube,I have done the research and what the car is going to be used for I am going mid length. That being said I have heard goos things about mac and AS&m mid length headers. Any others that are in the same ballpark quality wise?

Re: Mid Length header opinion

personally...it's not worth welding bungs and tieing factory emissions equipment into lt's. i have a 383 with pace setter mids (emissions legal) and they work great. i had pace setter lt's and i couldnt fit them on the car. i needed some lower motor mounts or solid mounts...i had to move the fuel lines, i had to relocate the EGR hoses and too much other stuff....i got fed up and ordered some mids. although i wish i had gone with SLP's stainless mids or AS&M's mids i'm satisfied with PS mids.

whatever you do...when you take off the factory manifolds, take off the bungs for the AIR tubes...the double ended brass fitting that actually bolts into the manifold. i left mine on and now have a rigged system to connect my EGR. it looks goofy and doesnt function properly.

also, if you have them coated, take them somewhere and have the flange checked for straightness. my flange warped during coating and i asked them to corrrect it. they said they did and now i have a leak on all 8 cylinders for exhaust....tacky and annoying.

breslin flange bolts are the best BTW...completely satisfied customer and recommend them to anyone with headers.

Re: Mid Length header opinion

Macs are supposed to fit really good but only have 1 5/8 primarys, and the AS&Ms are 1 3/4. If youre planning more then bolt ons in the future then go with the larger primarys. If you want to spend more and get stainless steel headers that wont rust then SLPs are the only option for mids (they are 1 3/4). Do get the flanges checked though so they are straight. If you get breslin bolts you will still need to re-torque them and they are twice as hard to do then regular bolts but hopefully after the second tightening they will stay tight.

Re: Mid Length header opinion

I've got SLP. I can't speak to power production, never dyno'd it. I can say, I regret the mids, b/c I don't want to leave any power on the table. They are super quality headers and look brand new after several years of use, hey no coating to come off! Changing the plugs sucks though.

Anyone got any concrete #'s on how much power you lose from LT vs 1 3/4 mids (on a heads and cam car)?

For $74 more then AS&Ms you get stainless steel (SLP), and for $150 less then the AS&Ms you can basicly get the same header design but it has a slip fit primary and a lesser quality coating (RKsport).
