mid 12's on a street tire- whats it gonna take

i'm about 95% sure that i'm gonna buy a 97WS6 w/ T56.
so i wanna do some hooker long tubes, mufflex y ipie and muflx 4" catback w/ a spintech muffler. (not 100%sure but i like the idea, would like to go withsome better headers. )
whats it gonna take to get to mid 12's

heads and cam i think should be able to do it. w/ stck bottom end.
i was thinking of the Lt4 heads and intake with using a hotcam

i've also heard that sopmbody somewhere sells this whole ikit for Lt1 cars. is this true and if so please whatsa linkor phone 3.
thanks jonathan

Not sure what that last sentence says but you don't need lt4 heads and intake. You don't need to really do anything to your intake. Your stock heads are fine with a good port job. The hooker longtubes are good headers. You could probably get mid 12's with the hotcam but if your gonna port your heads and gonna get longtubes then you probably don't have emissions. So you can get a bigger cam. The cc306 makes good power. But if you don't wanna go that big. There are a bunch of cam that are smaller then that but a step up from the hotcam. Like the 221/227xe, cc305, and 224/230xe. Those are just a few examples.

that last sentence was supoosta say that i am new to LT1's and the TPI motors i'm very good with.

does anybody make a set of good heads for the LT1. i know edelbrock does and i think AFR does too. lets say i get a set of AFR heads and a good cam like cc306. i wanna get to the mid 12's on stock suspeion and being only exhaust and heads and cam
i figure that if can run a a 12.4-12.5 that once i add 3.73's or a 4.11 12bolt. w/ slicks, some suspension mods a 11sec slip is possible

Your right on with your last reply. Sounds like you know what you need.....

The stock heads once ported flow pretty well, no need for AFR's

the cc306 sounds like it is a good cam but it says i will need computer tuning which i expected.
what exactly is computer tuning and can it be done easier that a LB9 car-
i've saw a guy @ the rack with a little pocket programmer or somthing like that.
is some thing like this all i'm goin to need or will i need more.
thanks for the help guys-

With heads and a big cam, you'll find it hard to run mid 12s on street tires with no suspension work, especially with an M6. you'll need drag radials.

With over 400hp at the wheels, my best on street tires is 13.18 @ 113mph. You can't hook up and you spin alot everytime you shift gears, even when granny shifting.

thats fine. with me as long as i have the power susenion wil most likly be this

Spohn adj LCA's w/ relocation brakets
Spohn adj Panhard rod
Spohn Tq. arm
QA1 front and rear shocks
a set of quality lowering springs.

subframes and a STb. (if they are made for this car, which i think they are just gota find em)
a moser 12 bolt will later on find its way in there and a a set of slicks or DR's. will a 11sec be possible then.
i think that should more than do the trick.

BTW- i would like to replace the heads. not port stock heads. because i don't knowhow and i do not trust any shops near me to port them for me- i have heard nohingbut get reviews and i have a set o AFR 215's right now on my other car so i would like to geta set for my next car-

195 LT4 AFR's heads.

and getting an intake won't be much more of a problem cause they are only $200.

I don't want to talk you out of buy allot of expensive parts, but you don't need to do all that to get mid 12's.
A good head porting and I'll second the motion on the CC XE 24/230 cam (very good) for your power.
Depending on your track, Nitto's or ET Streets. You don't have to do all that suspension work to get the car to hook up, yes all those things will help, but not necessary. Remove or disconnect your sway bar in the front does wonders, boxed lower control arms in the back will do. I do recommend a B & M torque arm or similar. If you have a M6 you will prob have to put a better clutch in. If and automatic, a larger stall helps allot. I wouldn't go higher than 3.73 gears even with a M6. If you have the 3.42's, I wouldn't bother going up at all.

All those parts are great, just depends on your budget, but you can get there for less.

My 2 cents

you don't need heads to run mid 12s.....a cam will get you there.
for the SFCs and STB, go to www.bmrfabrication.com - i have them on my car and theyre great.
