Not sure exactly where it is coming from as this just happened today, but I'm hoping cam bearings. If not what are everybodys thoughts on the Golen 383 build in December's issue of chevy high performance mag, but getting a short block version and using the heads and intake off the motor in my sig. Might need a new cam if mine is trashed but I don't know as the motor is still in the car. Thanks in advance for your time.

Golen would build you a nice short block. I'm happy with mine. Sounds like you have a lot of the other goodies already too. Get the forged stuff and you'll be able to put a lot of spray on it later if you wish.

Most likely what you are seeing is bearing fragments and yes most likely the cam.

wrd 1972, my initial gut reaction is cam as there was no smoke, no rod knock just a serious loss of power and oil pressure. I think some of my lobes are somewhat round right now. But on a good note I did so beat the guy who called me out Sat. This is really an expensive hobby!

I second or third the cam. I had the same deal. Lost oil pressure. No smoke or noise. Drained the oil the next day and looked like i was paning for gold. When i pulled the old block, I yanked the cam after I got my 383 in and all the lobes were all torn up already to one extent or another. It didn't run too long without pressure, but the short time it did was enough. No major damage though, so still have a good short block to mess with in the future if i wish.
