Question measureing deck height?

stock deck height is 9.025" right? Well im trying to measure the distance between the top of my piston and the top of the block and i keep getting numbers alot more than that... using a feeler gauge i i can get .035" between the piston at tdc and the top of the block... using vanier calipers i get .039" I get the same numbers on multiple spots on different pistons. Could this be right? Or what should i measure it with?

A bridge and dial indicator for piston height. Then ya have to figure the rod length, compression height, and 1/2 stroke plus your piston depth measurement and 1/2 of your clearances. The right way is to measure from the main brg centerline to each deck, they make a tool to do it.

MOTHER OF JUPITER! well... ehh... guess i wont be buying that. my rod legnth is 5.7" Compression height is 1.25", stroke is 3.48"

"and 1/2 stroke plus your piston depth measurement and 1/2 of your clearances."

if that is how deep she is in the hole one cylinder is .035" what are the clearances you speak of?

Dude, I'm still getting 8.690"!! I think you should have got stock compression height pistons. That would put it dead nuts on, by my calculations.

Wonder what we're doing wrong?

Re: measureing deck height?

Sounds like you received a piston for a 6" rod?

But then that doesn't explain why you come up with .033-.035 in the hole??

Re: measureing deck height?

3.480 stroke, 5.700 rod, 1.550 compression height piston.

1/2 stroke = 1.740 + rod length 5.700 + compression height 1.550 = 8.990 or .035 down in the hole on a 9.025 deck block.

Re: measureing deck height?

I dunno dude? the way the math adds up makes sense, and it should not work right... but there is no way in the world there is an extra .300" gap in there. maby there is some sort of time/distance distortion going on from all of the UFO's flying around

Re: measureing deck height?

Maybe the pistons are 1.55 and the box just SAYS 1.25?!

Hahahahaha, turns out he has a damn 6" rod. The whole time we thought they were 5.7's!!

Guess that makes up the .300", huh?!!
