Measure valve spring height for LT4 hot cam?
Measure valve spring height for LT4 hot cam?
Is this entirely necessary? I don't think the auto part store has a micrometer to rent. Can I just put the springs on and thats it? What should I do with the shims that come in the kit?
Ok, not to **** off Brent, but I really need an answer to this. I've searched it and nothing was very informative or a straight answer. I'm looking for info mainly from those who have done the hot cam. In other words, is this entirely necessary, or will it fit fince since its made for these engines?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Lots of people have put on the LT4 Hot springs
(me included) without measuring the installed
height. They are a simple replacement of the
stock spring. I did not install the cam to match.
I only replaced the springs to go with 1.6:1
rockers.
Would I do it without measuring if I were putting
in the cam.....No. There is only .035" to coil bind
with the LT4 Hot springs installed at 1.78". This
is too close for comfort for me without knowing
exactly where I stand.

I installed the HC kit in mine and did not measure the spring height. The hotcam kit is made for stock 92-97 LT1 heads, it's not like it's some mismatched cam/rr/spring package GM put together. Unless you have had the heads removed and work done to them and the valves I wouldnt worry about it, at least I didn't.
