Maybe getting a LT4 intake and Hotcam

I was thinking about getting the LT4 Hot cam and LT4 intake from gmpartsdirect.com . I was wondering if it would be ok to do just the intake and cam without other parts like the Spring retainers,RRs,etc that they sell in the whole kit ? I really dont have the $500 for the whole Hotcam kit right now and definetly not for the head, intake, cam kit right now. Do i need the whole kit or is the cam alone ok or is that wasting my time? Is the intake swap good for a few ponies? Any dyno runs on these?

Also why am I lacking alot of low end power? All mods listed in sig. I cant even spin them off the line when I punch it ! I know I got Nitto 555s and spinning is bad, but dammit I wanna go faster!

You MUST change at least the springs,or you will bind them.Dont know about your low end.

i believe you need the lt4 heads in order to use the lt4 intake.

The LT4 intake has the ports raised a tad to match up with LT4 heads.

Other than that it's the same as the LT1 manifold. Same flow. No gains to be had here.

so get the cam (24502586) and springs(12551483), but the rest like the 16 valve caps P/N 10212808, 16 valve keys P/N 24503856, 16 valve spring shims P/N 10212809, and 16 roller rocker arms kit P/N 12370839 I dont need? I wondering cuz the cam is $167.66 and the springs are $5.06 X 16= $80.96 and thats way less than the $486.50 for the whole kit. Or is it worth it for the whole dam thing? I wouldnt mind the roller rockers but I know the rockers are $261 by themselves and sound great at the package price instead of $510 for just those 3 seperately.

Also what else is needed for this? Its a late model 94 LT1 with the large opening in the front cover (late 94 right?) and the short cam pin dowel. What else is needed for this whole swap? I have the vented opti already which I know needs the shorter dowel and I know Im going to either need a LT4 extreme duty(im not getting the regular one) timing chain or an electric water pump and regular timing chain. What am I missing here? I know the selection on these LT1s is weird and needs to be well thought out

DESCRIPTION: Timing Chain Kit
This extreme duty timing chain kit is for 1995 and newer model "Gen II" LT1 and LT4 engines. To convert 1993 and 1994 engines, you must use camshaft P/N 10224242, distributor P/N 1104032, timing cover P/N 12552426, vac harness P/N 12554395, and vac fitting P/N 14082470. Included in this kit are the following steel gears: water pump gear, a camshaft sprocket, crankshaft sprocket P/N 14088784, and timing chain P/N 14088783. These parts are not the production replacement components, but this roller chain kit is a great performance upgrade. Use with pin drive camshaft only

like i said I have a late 94 from what ive found and do I really need all this stuff listed to swap from a 93-94 to a hotcam?

I mean hell $202.14 for a timing chain? Why so dam high on a LT1? Im from the old school where they were $19.99 for a double roller off the shelf at Pep Boys!

you can learn alot when you shut up and read!

DESCRIPTION: DISTRIBUTOR/OPTI-SPARK
Second design with vent for vacuum line to intake manifold. Fits 95-96 Corvette including LT4, 95-97 Camaro and Firebird. Also fits 94-96 fullsized B-body passenger cars; Impala SS, Caprice, Roadmaster and D body Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham.

thats why the optispark was vented and the timing chain cover is the "late 94 " style! cool so I dont need all the other crap with this being as I got it already in the 94 Caprice motor!!

That's news to me. Actually, compared to your (94) LT1 intake, the LT4 will actually fit better, with less unfavorable manifold/plenum intake port to head intake port mismatch.

I'm stating the (94) cuz the earlier LT1 intake plenum intake ports were a more truer rectangler port shape than the later LT1s or LT4s, which are a closer match to the LT1 head port.

I'd def. get those roller rockers. The intake won't do you any good alone, and the RR's will help you make the most of the cam.

Just my thoughts...
