Manual trans question
Manual trans question
This isn't F body related but I will ask anyway, a manual transmission is a manual transmission.....most of the time.
I put a clutch in a 92 Honda Prelude for a friend of a friend. He "said" he drove it for about a month and on the way home on a trip and it started popping out of 5th gear he kept putting it back in but it wouldn't stay. He said he drove it home in neutrul because thats where it would stay but it still pulled
The car sat for two months before it was ever mentioned to be there was a problem.
I went and looked at it this morning. The clutch disengages and relases like its supposed to. Heres the thing, it won't go into 4 or 5 at all, even with the engine off, and it gets hung up in 2 and third and you have to force it out. I thought it was a shifter linkage problem so i unhooked it at the trans, same thing.
You let the clutch out while the trans is in neutual and it pulls the car. I know for a fact he beat the **** out of the car after he got it back because my friend said he did it too. I have no problem standing behind my work, if there's a problem with the labor of putting it in, i'll take care of it, however he bought the clutch and if its a defective part, thats not my responsibilty. If the transmission has went south, I don't see thats my fault either. I filled it up with oil after I did it. I am a mechanic and stand behind what I do and always try to be fair with people. I will have to talk to my boss tomorrow and see if he has any idea's.
I don't think its the clutch because it disengages and engages)ahh i can't spell right now)when you let out cause it will pull the car.
Any ideas?

It doesnt soung like the clutch at all. It sounds like he tore up a syncho or 2 and it just got worse from him beating on it. I have seen this before as I rebuild alot of manual transmissions for the Ford Clowns and there T-5's. What a junk Transmission and yes it is almost Identical to the Camaro Firebird T-5's and they are junk too. LOL
Well back to your question, Sounds like he was abusing it and tore some internals up. Speed shifting is the worsT way to abuse a manual trans which I see so many people do.
