Question Manual cooling fan switch?

Want to be able to turn on my fans manually, i got one site from one guy on here, and it seems to be good, but want to look a bit more into it. Anyone got any goos sites or ideas on how to do this?

My site, under how-to's. Site is in the sig. Yeah it's not the greatest walk through but it is something none the less. Hope it helps.

Yes, the red wire is extra wire I used for the switch to the pcm. Did you see schoebox's site for the schematic? He has a picture showing which wires to snip.

Also, didn't you say you wanted to replace the temp sensor rather than make a switch?

Re: Manual cooling fan switch?

ya i did, but after replacing it, there was the same problem, so i made a switch. But i made the connection at the point on the strut tower (its the only place i could see the wire with the H, so i made it there. But i dont know if thats the wires going into or out of the pcm, all i know is now i can turn on my fan,and it keeps my car cool, but it runs all the time and not just when the car running, and i think it caused my service engine soon light to come on. You ever get this problem?

okay, i looked at shoeboxes site and yes thats what i did, the only thing i did diffrent is i spliced it after the connector instead of before it. but thats what i did, so any idea why it wont shut off when i turn off my car or why my service light is nw on?

Re: Manual cooling fan switch?

No, the only problem I had was attaching the ground to a positive so it ran when the car was in "on" but not running. When I switched it to negative it worked like it should. I can leave my switch on and turn the car off, and the fans will turn off too. You need to attach the wires before the relay, otherwise you might be pulling it straight from the fan and running way to much current, which can heat the wire up and melt it.

Re: Manual cooling fan switch?

I will get a picture later of exactly where to snip. It's in between the PCM and the "thing" with letters on it.

Thanks i think i know what your talking about now, hopefully when i move it before the "thing" i still dont know what you would call it lol, i will get it to turn on with the car, as well as it to turn off my service engine light. Do you know off hand if you fix the problem that turns on the service engine light, will it turn off, or will i need to have it turned off?

Re: Manual cooling fan switch?

If I remember right the "thing" is a relay. I never had a check engine light problem. But I also had it in the right spot to start with. Your fans not being hooked up right through the relay might be tripping the SES light. Like I said, I will get a good picture tomorrow of where and how I spliced the wire.

Re: Manual cooling fan switch?

In the first picture, notice the big collection of wires? Closest to my fingers. Those run into the relay on the side of the PCM, going into it from the top. It comes out the bottom and there is a blue wire, lettered "H". That is the high speed fan wire. I used that one and only that one since it cools the car off plenty. I spliced after the relay, so on the downside of it in that first picture. Then the wires run off somewhere else that doesn't matter right now. I snipped that blue wire in half, stuck a splice-like wire connector in there with the wire for the fan switch. Then took the other wire coming from the fan switch and hooked it to the ground. Doesn't matter where you put the ground really, as long as it is to a negative.

Also before I forget, did you cut the right wire on the right relay? There is a C100 and C105, you want to find the C100 and the letter "H".

Re: Manual cooling fan switch?

If followed, the wiring diagrams on my site requires no snipping at all and will not set an SES afterward. Not everyone does a fan swith the same way and with the same results.
