make lt1 400 hp?

make lt1 400 hp?

okay so ive just bought a 1005 z28 6-speed it has 180k miles. what are safe upgrades to this motor to help the overal power of the car? yea i know the lt-1 is well capable of well over 400 hp but with these miles whats safeset for the money?

1005 z28? Do you mean 1995? First of all you will need to find out if your engine is in good working condition. Does is still hold oil pressure? Do you still have good compression? Do some tests first to see how good or bad it is?

yes sorry 1995 but oil pressure seems good and compression is right. i bought from first owner mother of 3 so im hopeing isnt to wore out lol

Have you done a tune up already, its the first thing I do when buying an older used car. I would do a full exhaust first and a CAI. Consider doing some suspension work to launch car. Also 400hp will be more than enough to break the 10 bolt especially with a 6 speed

Like said above start with the basics before you start with the motor. Air intake and Long Tube Headers/Catback are a good start. Afterwards id go with a set of 4.10 gears and suspensions to ge the power to the ground. When you get this far then you can start looking into modding the motor. Hard to say how long the bottom end will last. If its in good shape it might take it for a while but if its tired you are looking at rebuilding soon if you plan to make in the 400rwhp area.
