major problem :(

hey guys, i need some suggestions .. I called up summit today and asked if i could run the cc306 cam with stock heads and he said i would need to replace the springs, and the ones that it recommends are larger , so there would be a required porting job.. BUT he gave me a part # of springs that will fit with out porting that he said are excellent springs, part # CRN-99846-16 .

Then he goes on to say I will need a 2500 stall converter, Anyone know which converter i could get for the cheapest with this stall? Part #? Link ? I can't afford to do my heads right now with the way this is going, too many more parts i need to even finish the project and make it start. Maybe i should just go with a different cam. Any suggestions on what i should do?

I guess i was going too money crazy and trying to buy every part to make it as fast as I could afford, but I think right now it's past my boundries.. Maybe the cc305? What kind of HP could i get out of this cam? Any information would be greatly appreciated, i'm starting to worry

Also : I had my PCM "tuned" by speed inc. and when they asked what cam i was getting i said cc306, would i have to have it reprogrammed for the 305? Or how does this pcm react to these cams, i dont quite understand how it works without being dyno tuned.

Thanks again!!

Thanks,

Dave

The 305 is good for a close to stock car, you can put down some serious numbers with it, and I would venture to say that you'd be better off with it for now.
The 306 is for people that already have significant work done to their car, with at least a minimum of all the bolt-ons.
You can always throw the 305 in for now, keep building up and when the time comes you can ditch it for the 306 or maybe something even beefier. The cam itself isn't really that expensive, it's all the other parts that can add up to a lot.
I think you'd like the 305.
Note: This is not from experience. But I wish I had a 305 in there...

Get the 612 spring package. Will work fine with that cam, and fit stock heads with no machining.

well , i dont have the cash for a converter right now either... i think i can deal with the 305, im not fething for anything amazing, YET.. I don't mind running the 305 now, and as i make money start swapping out other parts and stuff.. i think it'd be good for me, this way i wont broke anyparts using the 306 and then have a car that doesnt run.. would i need to change springs for the 305? If so , i do not mind.. Also i have a question again:

i have a set of brand new complete cast iron heads for my lt1, and i have a set of aluminum ones that are used with low miles on them but would it be possible to use all the stuff from the iron heads and move them over to the aluminum ones, since the parts in the iron ones are brand new.... or is this a no no.

Thanks again!

The 612 springs are good to .600 lift. Fine for either of those cams

You won't need a new torque converter.

iron heads, where you getting those from?

Edit: O I reread your post.... You should be able to swap the parts.

One more question, since when does a 4th gen have iron heads?

the motor must have been out of a impala or road master .. i bought the block complete, pretty much brand new, no driven miles on it. but i swapped over heads from a 97 camaro , and now im getting the cc305, and small mods here and there.
