Major oil leak.....

When i start my car, oil starts to leak from between the oil pan and the thing the oil filter hooks to. (i am sorry about my ignorance here, i dont know what its called.) I dont think its coming from the oil pan, it is just pouring out, no drips, i mean pouring. Is it common to leak like this at some point from the oil filter thing and how can i fix this? my car has 94K on it. thanks

Re: Major oil leak.....

Does it have an oil cooler? maybe the leek is from the cooler, or the oil filter o-ring is damaged.

Re: Major oil leak.....

are you sure thats exactly where its coming from? cause i had a bad leak tha ti "thought" was the rear of the intake.. and thats what the shop told me. payed ot have it fixed, they were wrong it was teh oil sending unit right above and beside the intake... and now the intake they "fixed" is leaking and if im remmeberin right thats where the oil was running down to on my car, if it was running it was a steady stream.. i woudlnt quite saying puring but a very very steady trickle at least.

Take your car to a GM dealership. Have a free 30 point inspection done. As hard as it is to believe this, hope its a "back of the intake manifold" leak. Its easy to fix, 5 hours, working slowly.
Go to GM, a free diagnostic cant hurt. Even have an oil change done. That way it looks like you are not trying to work the system, and a tech might spot something that they might not have other wise.
I had my coolant flushed and the 30point inspec done. they confirmed my intake leak. They quoted $500+ to do. I invested in a $100 tool set, some other stuff(ask if need be) and all together $250 fixed the job myself. Half the cost, with a new tool set. Cant beat that.

How will he get the car there with a leak that bad? A tow is expensive.

Did your problem occur after an oil and filter change?

Pull the filter off and see if the old O-ring from the previous filter is still under the new filter. If not, check to be sure the filter adapter for the oil cooler is tight to the block.
