maf worth buying?
For $200, is a granatelli maf worth buying? Does it really make a difference compared to stock. I'm asking this on behalf on my brother who has a 97 WS6 with exhaust, and an airfoil. Just curious anyone running with this Maf is it a noticable difference or not?
Re: maf worth buying?
Tell him an intake will do a better job of freeing up some power. Or better yet, put that 200 towards some headers. Once you have enough horsepower that the MAF becomes a restriction, usually it just gets chucked and the MAP sensor gets relied on anyway.
Re: maf worth buying?
The calibrations for aftermarket MAFs are unknown which means you can't set the pcm to be able to properly interperet the airflow so it can make accurate fueling commands. The TEMPORARY gains SOME see from them are a result of leaning out the AFR because stock is too rich, the O2s will learn out the gains and when you get too the point of proper programming the MAF will still be underreporting airflow too a pcm now setup for proper AFR and now you end up lean. Drivability problems become downright common occasionally worse happens much worse. If you get too the point of your stock MAF being a restriction(see kcshaners post) then you will be spending lots of time on the dyno so you might then and only then consider porting the MAF it will take some dedication and knowledge too get the calibration back in line once you start carving which is why it is not a recommended thing too do but those with radical combos and dyno time to redo the tuning can play with it.
