MAF screen

Today I removed the MAF and cleaned the bars and resistors. I started cleaning (carefully) with household alcohol and Q-tips. Since the Q-tips did not allow me to clean the bonding points I changed to a flux brush to complete a thorough cleaning.

* What is the purpose of the MAF screen?
* What are the plus' and minus' if the screen is removed and the MAF is reinstalled (without the screen) and the car is driven without it?

I removed the screen on mine, dint clean it I was to worried I would damage something. I could feel a very slight increase in throttle response but nothing to do cart wheels about. Well i guess every little bit helps.

The MAF screen straightnes out airflow so that the 3 sensors can get a more accurate reading. I would suggest NOT removing it.

I have to disagree it is a restriction of airflow if it was anything helpful they would be selling them on the market as such. Also if that is helpful then so would a catalytic converter it is of the same honeycomb style. On this I say remove it all it is doing is reading more air if all else fails go to your local speed shop and have them tune the computer it is inexpensive if it is a huge concern. My car has 142,000 miles on it and 90,000 is without aa problem from MAF. So i wil stick with removing it .
