Maf Was the problem.

So I got My 1994 Camaro Z28 running again! I put in a new MSD opti, Plugs, Spark Plugs, Coil. Slap on new front brakes and rotors. and Changed the oil, oil filter. Clean the Gas Filter. My car was stumbling, Misfiring. Till today, I unplugged my maf, and she ran! So now I know my problem was the maf. I didnt clean the maf just to see if it was dirty. But damn it feels pushing down on the pedel and hearing it run :P

The MAF is an often overlooked component. Even if it's not causing all of someone's problems, most times it helps contribute to it when people forget to clean them. I made a post about this last month with many views and replies.

Good find though. Good luck.

Might be the case of the MAF being bad, but unplugging a sensor does not always make for a good test. Better to use a scanner to tell if things are performing the way they should.

Tomorrow, I'm planing to clean it, and plugging it back in. If it mis fires, and stumbles, then I need to buy a new maf. I know the computer wont know how much air being sucked in, and it will cause bad gas millage. I would call a friend to use his scanner, next week, but for now ill run it unplugged.

The first summer I owned my Camaro I had a slight stumble/miss at 2000 rpm. It too ended upbeing the MAF.

Ok this is what happen today. My brother needed a ride home from his girl friends house. So i thought I take The Z28, and see how she rode, she rode good, until I picked him up and enter the freeway, it was stumbling around 1000 RPM, until it passed it was smooth. I told myself the computer doesnt know how much air was being sucked in with out the maf being plugged in, So it looks like Ill be picking up a new maf next week.

If I remember correctly, after the car is warmed up it doesnt even use the MAF, it uses the 02's, except for when you go WOT, it switches back to the MAF. So I am thinking your problem could lay somewheres else.

With ure MAF unplugged and 02's not being used yet. The computer may be putting the car into what is known as "limp mode". Basically it uses a pre-determined amount of fuel. Your car may be running in limp mode until the 02's heat up. Which may be why ure car is stumbling after warm up. I am not 100% sure on everything I just said so we may have to wait for someone else to give there opinion.

the pcm always uses mass air flow, on WOT it doesnt use the O2's and goes to WOT tables instead of MAF readings.

Why would a bad MAF cause stumbling and misfiring? I ask because this is the problem I'm having right now and it's not the ignition system.
