 Never ending water pump frustration
I would go to autozone and rent a cooling system pressure tester. Just attach it to the radiator and pump it up to build pressure in the system. Then look and see exactly where it is leaking. It's not very likely you received 4 or 5 bad pumps in a row.
If you do find you need a waterpump, buy it on ebay. There is a guy on there who rebuilds pumps for a living and rebuilds them also and sells them on ebay. Paid about 70.00 about two years ago, and have put 10k on it since with out a problem. Just a fyi

Went back to AZ and finally got a good one....sometimes this remanufactured stuff is a crap shoot.
I had a terrible experience w/ a reman from az...it leaks out of the actualy cast iron where it meet up w/ the metal piping which the hose clamped...along w/ around the sensor and 3 of the bolts...Got a non re-man one from AZ and not one dam leak. The reman are cheap like $60, the regular is like $120 def worth it. **** the reman. I had soooo many problems with it.
89 lb. in. is the correct torque for the thermostat housing. You are very lucky you did not snap a bolt (many other people have, as the torque value is printed wrong in many manuals). The housing and pump are precisely machined and meant to be installed without a gasket and only a rubber ring around the thermostat.
I hear you. When it leaked ~ I was a bit miffed & the 89 lb.in felt too lose. I checked my 94 Corvette Service manual (and Haynes) & they had 18 Ft. Lb. which is what I used ~ problem solved (and yes ~ it was a bit touchy pulling the torque). The water pumps are the same ~ what gives?
