I am about to go nutty trying to decide on an exhaust for my car. I only have a few mods now but would like to have an exhaust that will flow enuff for future mods(ported heads and cam)

While I was looking over my mac's (uninstalled) today I got to thinking that it would not be that hard to cut the y pipe before it joins and run daul pipes side by side. Lt's are out of the question as my car is lowered and already scrapes too much.

The only thing I couldn't figure out is what kind of muffler to run or where to put it. I could put it where the cat was or in the stock location. If I run some sort of bullet type I could put them next to the drive shaft. Maybe a daul in daul out in the cat location?

Looking for suggestions, opinions or ideas. Want a good sound without being to loud. Be nice not having any of that dam popping either.

 

Is it that bad of an idea?

 

With true duals, it's going to be awefully hard to get it real quiet unless you can put larger mufflers on each side.

I love the sound of my MAC's with the Hooker catback. NO rasp or popping whatsoever. I have a single high flow cat that helps keep it from popping and getting raspy. I'm going to try a bullet muffler in place of the cat though.

I'm pretty sure true duals will run you into ground clearance issues.

Picture td06 is a little misleading because I originally had
Flowmaster 10 series mufflers that I replaced with the
Dynomax Ultraflow. With the Flowmasters I picked up 12
rwhp over a 3" catback system. I have not dynoed since
I switched to the ultraflow.

oh and also how is power now that you went to the dynomax?

 

trueduals, That is exactly what I was talking about! Do you know the part # for the Ultraflow that you used? How loud is it and is there any popping? Did a local shop build that system for you and how much did they charge you? Sorry for all the questions but for once I am actually excited about putting exhaust on a 4th gen camaro!

hey truedual ws6, i need you to clarify which ultra flo you got? the welded or the ss?? the welded is aluminized and looks more like a traditional boxy muffler, although can support 1000hp each according to the dynomax rep that i just got off the phone with

the ss is obviously the stainless steel, and does indeed flow less than the ultra flo welded as dynomax has on their website, this is odd but whatever...i would like to know how the sound differs between those 2 would be and how they stack up against the 1-chamber flows.

the reason i am asking is because i have my entire exhaust picked out, i just need to decide on the mufflers. the 2 choices are: 1) dynomax ultra flo welded 3", OR 2) flowmaster 1-chamber 10 series 3"

i know in your past posts you have said that the flowmaster is just ''too loud''. would you consider it at least quieter than a dynomax bullet for example??
lastly, how is the flow with the flowmaster when you had it? people say flowmaster sucks, but most of the time they are referring to the 40 series 2 chambered mufflers....the old style at that!

i hope this information helps you too, no hijacking intended man....bullets, ultra flo (either type) and flowmaster should give you a good starting ground...

also check out Spintech's website if you dont like these suggestions...they seem pretty new, but have awesome sound clips on their website. I think it may be a little unfair though since the clips are of cars that are closer to the 4-digit HP range. lol

 

you could very easily run a mock SLP 2OTL in the back there with 2 bullet mufflers in the stock location. 2OTL looks great on Z's, but is out of the question for TA's...

 

I have the SS Ultraflow. The SS was $199 and the welded was
$129 so I went with the SS for longevity.

The Dynomax rep told me that the welded and the SS ultraflow's
are the same with the only difference being the material. The SS
is not welded though. I compared the two mufflers at the shop
and they looked the same in terms of the inlets, outlets and the
perforated pipe.

The main problem with the Flowmaster is the interior resonance,
it's too much. The exterior sound was awesome and the power
felt really strong. I would imagine that the exterior sound of a
bullet would be similar to the 10 series with the bullet having an
advantage of less interior resonance.

I plan on a dyno run this Friday to see if the Ultraflow lost power
compared to the Flowmaster 10 series. I will post results.

 

Hey Sleeper, Your not hijacking my post... actually your asking the same questions I want to know.

I have it narrowed down to either ultraflows or magnaflows. They both offer a daul in daul out muffler for about the same price. As for the flowmasters, No thank you. I like to be able to hear myself think when I'm sitting in my car.

One more for you Trueduals, is your car lowered or do you know anyone else running that same setup with a lowered car?
Curious to see how that dyno run goes for you as well.
