MAC Mids to Pacesetters LTs: worth the money?
MAC Mids to Pacesetters LTs: worth the money?
Ive had my Macs for a few months now and was wondering if it would be worth it to pull them off and jet hot coat them and throw them back on, or if it would be better to just buy some coated pacesetters for 400 bucks and sell the macs and y pipe for arond 150-200 or whatever i could get out of them. Well the real question is if it would be worth the extra money for the gain?

As owners of both, i vote LONG TUBES!
My car was having some major power issues and i decided that the exhaust setup was just not right. I had macs into crap true duals with glass packs with no x or H pipe to speak of. By the way i have the LE1 package from Lloyd. I switched to coated pacesetters and a borla catback open. Yea that was like night and day compared to the crap macs.

MAC's have proven to dyno just as well as LT's up to 400 rwhp.
How much will it cost you to coat them? If it's not bad, I would stick with the Mac's.

Well I'm thinking its going to cost somewhere between 100-150 bucks to coat them. I havent contacted Jet Hot yet but plan to soon. I was really wanting to run true duals with LT's, but then again I would have to run them over/under the axle or it would just look retarded. Also the fab work would add to the cost of the LT's. If there isn't a big noticable difference then I'll just stay with my macs.

HUGE difference.
My macs were made POORLY, crapy welds and header collectors. Yes i put them on but i could not take them back so i was stuck with them for quite some time. The y-pipe was made poorly and the Ball flanges are the worst. Just not at all what i expected.
The paceseters on the other had are awsome, clean welds, Freaking awsome collectors, no slip tube. And they were Coated and cheaper than my pos macs.

I bought my MAC's coated by the way, and they look and perform great.
The ball joint is a PREFERRED method for the Y-pipe. It allows you to have some adjustability with the Y-pipe and catback, and it will still seal. You are not fixed into position like the 3 bolt/gasket style, or slip joint that required welding.
I do agree that some of the welds are not the best on the MAC's. I had to repair one weld on my driver's side header collector.

Re: MAC Mids to Pacesetters LTs: worth the money?
Coat the MAC's and reinstall them. You'll be money ahead and you already know the MAC's fit, plus at your power level, you're not leaving anything on the table and you still have room to grow.

i have SLP 1 3/4" midlengths for a 94/95 LT1 (i have a 96 but they fit fine). IMO they offer the best compromise - only problem is plug access sucks
