MAC header Q?

I have the chance to buy a set of used coated MAC headers from a 97Z for 50 bucks. It only comes with the headers, but my question is if there is any difference between the 94-95 and the 96-97 ones? Is it only the Y-pipes that are different?

That's a great price! Tel you what, if you find out that that they can't work on your car (which I doubt will be the case) then let the person know I'll buy them

I'm pretty sure that the only difference is in the y-pipes. The headers themselves should be the same.

Thanks guys. I thought that the headers themselves were the same, but I wasn't 100% sure.

Oh an 97 30th Z, If I do get them and they don't work I'll sell them to ya!

Not possitive but the emission hookups may be different sizes between the years. When I got mine in they didn't hook up correctly. I called Mac several times and everytime they gave me a description of the 94-95 headers making sure they weren't boxed wrong and that they didn't send me the 96-97 headers.

Hmmm...I guess I could always just delete the EGR and AIR if needed. We don't have emmission testing where I live. For 50 bucks it's a hard deal to pass up.

Yes I would definetly jump on that deal, esp. if they are coated! I'm going to pull mine off this spring and send them off to jet hot. What are you going to do about the missing y-pipe?

Ya, I'm just wondering if it isn't the stock coating from MAC...but I guess it really doesn't matter for 50 bucks. lol. Umm, I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the y-pipe. I'll probably looked for a used one off the board for awhile since I have a few months before the Z will be out of winter storage. If I don't find one by then I'll just have to buy a new one.

the emissions hook ups are different, though I believe just in different places.

Re: MAC header Q?

My fittings were different sizes as the ones on the headers. Mac sent me the adapters, but to use them I would have had to pull the headers back off, and cut/weld them on. I just came up with different fittings, and it works for now, but all of the emissions will be gone this spring.

The Mac coating wont last long so if you don't want rusted headers, I would find some way to coat them before install. Mines already got rust spots after 4-5 months and its not a daily driver.

Re: MAC header Q?

The biggest difference is the drivers side header. The 94-95 style look like an actual mid-length with primary tubes being alot longer & better flowing than the 96-97 style drivers side as all but the #1 primary tubes look like a snail shell. The 96-97 are better than stock & and are good headers, as a suggestion check the group purchase for sale page I think Jet Hot has a clearance sale on their lts and y pipe for you car. I would bet money would be better spent on lts

Take a look at that link. You can see the difference in the two styles.

The '94-'95 style is better than the '97 style. You need to look at the headers that the guy is selling though. I put '94-'95 style MAC's on my '97. He may have done the same. You just need the correct year catback to match the headers(or cut/fab your current catback to work).

I would wait until you can buy exactly the headers you want.
