mac header/ovc plug wire questions
mac header/ovc plug wire questions
hey, my father and I are in the process of installing my 94-95 style mac headers, highflow cat, and slp LM on my firebird. so far it has been... fun. I bought the taylor ovc plug wires to go with the headers. We're about 3/4ths of the way done, with the passenger header in place but not fully tightened. my questions are:
1) is the oil dipstick a pain for everyone else too? I just glanced at the instructions and noticed that the dipstick and the header are supposed to go in at the same time. I hope not because then I would have to take the header back out. we ran out of time so we couldn't try it out.
2) where do you guys route your ovc plug wires on the passenger side? theres 3 looms for the stock plug wires, do you run the wires through these looms?
3) do you have to put anything on the slip tube for the drivers side header to make it seal or will it seal correctly on its own?
I can't wait till its done. I sure hope the reward is worth the work. We managed to break a coolant hose of some sort and have to replace that. It comes out of the water pump and heads to the fire wall along side the engine bay. So far there are about 6 hours invested in the whole project. Wanted to have it done by friday to take it to the track friday night, but it doesnt look like I'll be done nor does it look like the weather will be cooperating

1. Yes its a pain for everyone. Mine actually cooperated and went in easy. Alot of people chop it in half then splice it back together. I wouldn't
2. Aftermarket wires probably won't fit in the stock looms (too thick). Just seperate them with wire ties. If you really need it I could take a pic of my ghetto setup.
3. On my Hooker LT's I just slipped it on and its hasn't leaked in two years. Your mileage may vary
Your right up the road from me, if you get stuck feel free to PM me I've done more of these header installs than you can count.

ovc wires
i agree wire ties are a mans best friend (next to his dog of course)
when i did my hooker long tube install i took out my dipstick and cut it and flared it i use a small piece of silicone hose to conect the two pieces makes the job easier if you have to remove your headers on the slip joint i thought mac gave you a clamp if not dont worry i have no leaks in mine and im not using a clamp

thanks for the info.
and I didn't think anyone else had f-bodies around here. seems like they all drive mustangs or the older people drive buicks!
and hooker LTs are legal in PA? do you take your car drag racing often, if so where? I usually head over to island dragway in NJ once a month.

long tubes
yes long tubes are legal. my car falls under the exeption rule (less than 5000 miles a year)but as long as you have a cat regardless of where it is you are ok some states require that the cat remain in factory location but not pa my car has never been to the track hope to change that soon
I have LT's but no A.I.R hookups on the headers so I'm pulling them off for RK Sports next week. BTW I HATE Island, how you could race at that track is beyond me. I ran 3 tenths slower there. Worst, most poorly run track I have ever seen-and I've been to alot of tracks!! Its close to you however. For me Island is as far as Maple Grove and that's no contest.
