M6 Tranny Fluid?

A lot of you guys use the Honda Synthetic ATF from the Honda dealerships, right?

Yes, but it is just Honda ATF (not synthetic). At least I don't think the bottle said that. Feels really nice with the shifts

I was under that impression too, but a year ago when I changed my clutch, a lot of people said to go with Honda ATF, although I had already bought semi-synthetic valvoline atf. I just happen to be changing the fluid, so I'm going to go with Honda now and see what the hype is about.

I also added the Lucas Oil Trans Additive into the ATF when changing... makes a world of difference! You can get Lucas Oil Additive at Napa. I won't use anything else. They make good products!!!

I will never touch lucas oil again.

I've always heard that additives were bad, and basically delay a problem rather than fix it (no-stop oil leak, etc). I had a little doubts about the lucas oil but I figured what the hell I'll try it, after all it did look pretty good in the demonstration thing they have on parts counters.

Anyway, I used it in my engine oil, as per the bottle's directions. Didn't notice much of a difference, decided it wasn't really worth the cost.

This winter we had some ***-cold days out here in New Jersey. The car would be a bit rough when warming up, not rough rough but just a tad. I changed my oil in the winter and went back with straight mobil 1 synthetic, and when the car was cold it wouldn't be rough anymore at all, just plain ol' smooth.

I posted a question here about lucas oil, and patman replied with a link to an independant test conducted by some people he knows I think, and the results were a bit shocking.

The gist of the test showed that Lucas Oil, at high RPMs, starts foaming, thereby not lubricating as it should, and just basically becoming useless. So..I for one, will not use Lucas Oil anymore at all.

I have used quite a few different fluids in my T-56 (Regular Dexron III, Redline, and Honda ATF) and now have GM Synchromesh in it. Although it is expensive, I will use the Synchromesh again as I think it gives me the best shifting "feel".

I've had Honda ATF ZL-1 in my T-56 for over a year and it works great. I heard from someone in the oil business that it is made by Mobil-1 for them, and is a true synthetic Dexron-IIe/III ATF.

That might explain why it's $4.25 a quart. =) Thanks for the info!
