M6 guys inside...

a buddy of mine broke his 4th gear synchro...

i think we need to replace # 3 and 4... 4th won't go in at all... and it makes a nasty metal scraping sound going into 3rd that appears like its coming from the console unless you properly double clutch it...

the transmission just got $750 worth of work, new clutch and a bunch of other ****...

my question is...

do we need to rebuild the whole damn thing? or can we just replace the 3 and 4 synchros...?

thanks

Jared

I may be blowing smoke here, but I believe you can just replace the one synchro. However, if you're doing the one, might as well do the rest, and upgrade the shift forks ect. at the same time. Couldn't hurt, right? Well, except for the wallet maybe....

Why "fix" something that's not broken.
Just replace what's bad, then make sure you look everything else over for signs of wear. If in doubt with anything, replace it too.

i was thinking along the lines of the domino effect... like when you fill up a tranny with burnt fluid, you gotta rebuild everything...

preventative maintance, you shift forks will probably go out, mine have. but I would only replace synchros that are bad. they are expensive.
