LT's, exhaust, and lowering

The car's not a daily driver, just a hot rod... so that's not a big concern. Right now I have hookers and a full 3" dual exhaust. Willing to change to a mufflex if it will give me more room. But I believe the biggest clearance problem is at the collectors right? Anybody have an opinion on this? With the new paint job I'm really wanting to drop the car a couple inch's...

drivers side of the mufflex is the worst part of the Y-pipe for clearance, I cut that piece off and made a custom 3 inch mandrel bent piece (no crush bend here) and took it to an exhaust shop and had them weld it all up.
how many inches are you dropping the car?

2 inches...
yikes thats low, its doable just don't go over any huge speed bumps.
a little grinding off the cross member is about the only fabrication that needs to be done.

good luck.

Yeah, we've already done some minor clearancing there... figure I could do some more though because we didn't take out a whole lot...

As far as exhaust goes though... won't I have problems with the collectors? I'm willing to change headers if someone makes a set that clears the ground better than the hookers. Suggestions? And what about exhaust? right now I have the true duals, and I'm pretty sure they won't clear Which folds over to the endless debate of 4" single vs. 3" duals...

Thanks

sure, that'd work very well for my 13:1 compression, 335 cfm heads, 260+ duration solid roller motor.

that sucks to have to go away from true duels.
I am not sure but i think you can probably modify your headers to get the collectors to angle more upwards, not a whole lot but enough to where you will have better clearance, I would go with the mufflex and then go with a 4 inch exhaust system from the y back....don't know who makes a good 4 inch system so no recomendations here. The problem with lowering the car is options....there just isn't that many with out alot of fabrication, but it can be done.

Dynatech headers tuck WAY better than the Hookers. But be sure to get the collectors welded.

Oh really? cool... I'll have to check into them... Is there a y pip available for them to mate with a 4" exhaust?

1997rblckSS- lol, it's funny that you have heard of the mufflex y pipe, but not their 4" exhaust. I believe they make the best, if not only 4" system out there.....
