LT4 valve covers?? How big of cam?? Clearancing alternator??

How many of you are running the LT4 covers on your LT1 f-body???

How big of camshaft is safe to run on these?? I have heard a couple horror stories of people having the rockers hit the valve cover and ruin them with big cams??? Is a CC306 too big or can it go bigger yet?? What lift of cam is everyone running with these??

Also, is there any problem with the clearance on the alternator when stuffing these covers on the LT1's in the f-body??? Just wondering..

Thanks

well, I'm not sure about the rocker clearances, but I know they have the notch to clear the alternator.

I have CC306 on stock heads, it runs great w/1.6 rockers and it is .510/.540 and you can run it with no problem. You could possibly run a bigger cam but I would recommend the CC306 and the LT4 valve covers may not clear the alternator because the alternator on the LT4 is on the drivers side. You can get some tall valve covers from summit for a good price. And the rockers don't hit the stock valve covers.

So, I have two different responses about the LT4's clearing the alternator?? Anyone confirm this???

So the CC306 clears...anybody running anything bigger??? I would just assume not buy any valve covers from summit, then they will have to be cut and ground down and welded so that they will clear the alternator unless summit makes LT1 f-body specific tall valve covers???

Every description I've read has said "will fit ALL LT1 and LT4 engines". To me that means it will have the clearance for the alternator. In this link you can see that the front of the cover is set back a bit, so it should clear with no issues.

There is no problem with the LT4 cover clearing the alternator.

I had them on my car, no problems whatsoever even with a planed head and cam with 1.6 Comp Pro Magnums.

If you look at the early 93 TA press cars, they all had Vette valve covers. When the cars hit production they got the crappy stamped steel ones.

I guess they will clear. Summit makes some f-body specific ones too.
