Re: is this an lt4 starter??

'96 Corvette is right, but not 32v. The LT4 starter should be from a 96 Corvette GS, six speed with the 330hp LT4 package.

However, the back of that starter looks exactly like my new LT4 starter did, so it's probably the right one. I think a few of the guys on here have done what you're trying to do, you might wait for them to chime in.

true, but as far as i know the only 32valve V8 GM made around that time was the LT5..

I could be wrong though as i am far from an expert in these cars.

I really don't think they made an LT5 in '96, but that starter does look like an LT4. The LT5 is so rare I'd be very surprised if NAPA anywhere had one in stock, unless it just happens to share starters with the LT4 (which is probably not the case since GM didn't even design or cast that block).

You could probably overnight a brand new LT4 starter for the same price or maybe less.

Re: is this an lt4 starter??

Just ordered my LT4 starter from Sam Taylor Cadillac in Florida, spoke with Mike, Jason Cromer was not there at the time, and got it for $172 and some change (The number is: 1-877-726-8295). Obvioiulsy there is shipping involved and you will also be charged for your core, $39. This will be refunded if you send your starter back to him. It's going to come out to be around $190 once shipping is paid to send the new starter to me and for my old one to be sent back. This is also a BRAND NEW starter with a 1 yr. warranty, not a remanufactured starter, which is what Napa is selling.

Been seeing these threads for years, and I always wonder how you guys got to calling it an LT4 starter? LT1 and LT4 vettes have the same starter.

I've heard the LT4 whines differently when you start it? Someone described it as almost sounding blower-like upon start up.
