lt4 stall requirements

I installed the lt4 hot cam with lt4 heads with 1.6 gmpp rockers, and lt4 intake bbk throttle body, headers. Im building this mild car with my son as a project to spend time together. Im not looking for a race car, just a good driver for his first car. The car is a 97 z28 with 4l60e. What do I need to help this combo work, as in a torque converter requirement? What brand is the most common or best bang for the money? Any brands have issues?
Thanks
Tom

Re: lt4 stall requirements

Hi Tom
The first mod i did to my ´96 was a Hot Cam kit and LT headers.
I used the car exclusively on the street.
I installed a 2400 stall TC and it had excellent street manners. It also kept the car from wanting to creep at the stop light.
That would be my suggestion faor a street only fun car.

If you plan on doing some racing, maybe a 3000 or 3600 would be OK

A 24-2500 rpm stall is a reworked stock type 12" converter. Even a stock cam benefits from a real performance 9.5" converter 2800+ stall from Edge/Yank/Vigilante. This is not 1980 a 2800 stall from one of the above mentioned companies drives like stock till you ask more of it.

Heck money wise you would have been vastly better off with a good stall instead of you heads/intake choice.

Re: lt4 stall requirements

There is alot of info on this subject in the LT1 world if you do some searching. There are a few select ones to consider. I myself did alot of research. I've had a 2400, 2800 and settled on the Yank SS 3600. Very efficient and one of the best all around for the LT1. I have over 7 years of use on mine and it brings a smile to face everytime I drive the car. All I have is some bolt-ons and it pulled 5 tenths off my et. Highly recommended. Regardless of the brand you choose, use a good trans cooler also.
