LT4 Springs

What is the biggest cam you can run with the LT4 springs and what are the specs on it? I may have to go this route because of the money issue but I would just like to consider it as an option.

Re: LT4 Springs

Seems I've heard a total lift of .530 is max.

Re: LT4 Springs

If I remember correctly, the LT4 springs support a max lift of .525. Even with that though, keep in mind the LT4 springs were designed for the lighter LT4 valves (hollow), so I'd be hesitant to run them even at .525 with stock LT1 valves.

Very Good Point indeed. I was thinking of using the LT4 springs and the 1.7 rrs but now that I read this post I may go with the Beehives anyways.

Re: LT4 Springs

So what are the specs of the LT4 cam? I just want to go ahead and upgrade my springs and put in some 1.6 rockers now. I want to add a cam in later down the road but not for a while. I am just curious what springs I could go with that will be fine with the stock cam for a while but still be able to be used with a aftermarket cam. I want something streetable maybe around .525-.545 lift. Any suggestions?

Re: LT4 Springs

Do a search, the specs have been posted a number of times. To summarize though, the stock LT4 and LT1 cams are almost identical, all the difference in the LT4 comes from the heads and 1.6RRs.

As to cam suggestions, you could always go with the LT4 Hotcam. It will put you at .525 lift with 1.6RRs and is very streetable. If it were me though, I'd go with something a little bigger as there are many posts of people that do the hotcam and then wish they'd gone larger (or end up pulling it to go larger).

Re: LT4 Springs

If you are refering to the LT4 hotcam then you are wrong. The stock LT1 cam and LT4 hotcam are extremely differant. Im not sure what the stock LT4 cams #s are though.

Re: LT4 Springs

Go ahead and get LT4 springs to use with the 1.6's, and just count that extra $ as part of the rocker mod. Any good spring that'll handle a cam you want to go with in the future will be too much for the stock valvetrain, mainly the lifters. You can still reuse the 1.6 rocker arms you have though. The only 2 ways to do this right are to put the 1.6's on with LT4 springs and when time comes for a cam, get different springs for the cam, or just wait until you get a cam to put the rockers on. If it were me, I'd go the first route since you don't plan to cam your car for awhile.
