LT4 requires vented opti?

well i was just looking at a lt4 setup w/ hotcam and it came across my mind that the lt4 was made in 97 correct?

if thats ture it was running on a vented opti if i did a lt4 swap or rebuild would i need to upgrade that?

I think that you just need to trim the dowel pin on the hotcam to fit your unvented opti. Since the LT4 was made in '96, the pin on the hotcam extends out perfectly if you have a '96 or '97. I would measure how far the dowel sticks out of your stock cam and make sure the new cam dowel is the same.

The hotcam is made to work either way. It comes with the dowel pin setup for vented opti, but if you have an earlier model you just push the dowel pin in further on the cam.

The main thing is the cam timing chain gear. If you use your stock cam timing gear you can use your non-vented opti/timing gear. If you use the LT4 extreme duty timing set you will need the vented opti conversion (opti, timing chain cover, harness, etc.). You con't need the LT4 timing set for the swap (I don't know if it comes with the conversion or not).
